2012 Emmys: And The Nominees Are …

The 2012 Emmy nominations will be revealed Thursday morning at 8:30am EST/5:30am PST. You can catch the reveal on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s The Today Show, CBS’s This Morning and streamed live at Emmys.com. “Scandal” star Kerry Washington and Nick Offerman of “Parks & Recreation” will announce the nominees for 64th Annual Emmy Awards at 8:40am ET. We will have the full list of nominations posted right here once they are made available. We here at YakkityYaks know and love our television, so many of our FORUM members will have a lot to say about the nominations from a true fan’s perspective, so be sure to join our conversation!

As for who is in the Emmy mix? Should “Mad Men” get nominated (and win) Best Drama, it will be the first series to even win the award 5 years in a row, breaking it’s current tie with NBC series “Hill Street Blues,” “L.A. Law,” and “The West Wing.” Also in the drama category, look for “Homeland” and Claire Danes to get some support, based on their wins at the Golden Globes. As for the slew of other dramas – “Dexter,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “The Good Wife,” “Breaking Bad,” “The Walking Dead” and more – someone is sure to get snubbed and fans are sure to be disappointed.

Well, don’t be surprised if some comedies like “30 Rock” and “Glee” don’t get a nod based on weaker seasons and a stronger playing field from their counterparts. Of course, with names like “Modern Family,” “Big Bang Theory,” and critically praised “Parks and Recreation,” it’ll be interesting to see who will give “Modern Family” a run for it’s money to take the Best Comedy title again. Will Melissa McCarthy and Jim Parsons repeat their wins in the Best Actress and Actor category (Parsons is in the running for his 3rd)? And which Modern Family co-stars will enter the Supporting race?

Of course, in the reality TV landscape, will Jeff Probst run away with another Reality Host win? Or could Cat Deeley, Phil Keoghan, Ryan Seacrest, Tom Bergeron give him a run for his money? Will we see a new face enter the playing field? And the other question on many minds is will “The Amazing Race” be dethroned from dominating the Reality Competition category?

Of course, the big question on the minds of many is how will network TV fare versus the ever strengthening cable TV landscape? Watch this page tomorrow for the full list of nominees when they are announced!
