A Muddy Situation – Cycle 16, episode 6 – ANTM

This episode began with Molly’s usual complaints of her nest-looking hair. The outcome of her weave has progressed to her getting rashes and an irritated scalp. She confronts Tyra with the situation, who basically says that it is normal and that lots of models deal with it. In the meanwhile, Tyra is in the room with the girls telling them the different archetypes of modeling. She explains that there are four kinds: Bombshell, girl next door, edgy, and couture. The girls are asked to judge each other on their archetypes, each of them owning their own genre. Tyra also teaches them another lesson, on how to sign autographs. She gives them a tip not to sign with hearts, because it is “unoriginal’’. Her third and final lesson of that visit is to never listen to the negativity that critics, in magazines or over the internet, can bring to you. The modeling industry is all about having “thick skin”.

The day after these lessons, the girls were brought to a local place where they could sign autographs and interact with fans. The winner would get a dinner with Ms. Jay and two other people of their choice, at an exclusive restaurant (Rock Sugar). The challenge seemed like it was done in a long period of time, so it is understandable how the girls got tired, but Monique had a different way of handling her interaction. She was annoyed and careless almost the entire time. One fan went up to her and asked if she could kiss him, and she suggested that he ask Alexandria, who, she said, would really give him a kiss. When the fan confronted Alexandria, she was mad, saying that Monique shoved this fan into her face to get him away from her. Alexandria did exactly what Monique said though, and kissed the fan on the cheek (after trying to tell Ms. Jay on Monique). Ms. Jay had no reaction because “Lex” did exactly what Monique said she would do. Kasia ended up winning the challenge, with her bubbly and down to Earth personality. She chose Jaclyn and Brittani to go to dinner with her, which left Monique in envy. The rest of the girls had to clean up after the fans, who made a huge mess.

At the big challenge, the girls did a photo shoot at Smashbox Studios, with photographer Jonathan Mannion. The girls were covered in mud and told to get into groups based on their hair color. Alexandria, once again, tried directing the shot, which annoyed Mr. Jay. His confrontation with her scared her for the upcoming elimination. The brunette group ended up having the stronger photo than the blonde group.

Elimination came, and it was clear that Monique, Alexandria, or Mikaela would go home. Britanni, who was the strongest in the winning photo, got her name called first. Other strong competitors were called, and the decision was left between the three girls stated above. Monique ended up going home, due to her tendency to remain in the middle, with no outstanding shots.

I still would like to see Alexandria go home! She can hardly get a good picture out, she has a bad attitude, and nobody seems to get along with her. That type of person is dangerous in any professional field. It is sad that she thinks she knows what she is doing, when she continually suffers in the competition. Kasia, on the other hand, is one of the sweetest girls there, takes strong pictures, and deserves to stay. On the last note, is it me, or does Mikaela look more like an alien than a human?
