Cycle 16 of America’s Next Top Model began Wednesday night and the viewers were promised a different, more exciting season. The girls were flown in to L.A. for what Tyra told them was casting week. Usually during casting week, Tyra makes the girls do a series of challenges so that she can make the ultimate decision of who stays or goes. This time, Tyra switched it up by having the judges (Mr. and Mrs. Jay Alexander) immediately evaluate the girls based on their walks. What the girls didn’t know was that in the meanwhile, Tyra and Nigel were reviewing and deliberating the tapes from the challenge to make that final decision.
After the challenge, the girls were taken to a building where they were told by Mr. and Mrs. Jay that Tyra had already made the decision on who would stay. The girls were then given a portfolio with either a photo or a piece of paper and were told that the girls with the photo would continue on in hopes of becoming ANTM while the others would have to pack their bags and go home. Tyra deceived the girls and told them that models “have to go out there and face rejection”, so all along it was a little challenge on who could face rejection. The girls with no photo ended up staying in the house while the other girls went home. (The Models sent home we believe were actors of course.)
The girls that stayed had their first challenges in Malibu with guest judge Erin Wasson. They had a photo-shoot literally backstage while they were doing their makeup. After this, the girls had to do a runway challenge, walking in a bubble in the middle of water while wearing A. Wang clothing. A couple girls fell and thankfully there were no injuries.[singlepic id=334 w=320 h=240 float=right]
Deliberation came that night with the judges Nigel, Tally, Wasson, and Tyra. The girl with the best shot was Molly, and the worst was between Dominque and Angelia. Angelia went home because of her lack of personality. Thirteen girls remain in the hopes of becoming ANTM.
The runway challenge was way too hard for the girls. They didn’t even know how to walk on land yet, let alone walking in a bubble floating on water and a skinny runway. It was entertaining yet sad to see some of the girls fall. Also, that girl that was teaching Jaclyn to walk had bad reviews from the judges. Hopefully Jaclyn didn’t take her advice! It is going to take a lot of work to make some of these girls models *cough Sara (rat-tail) cough*.
