ANTM – Fiery Commercials

Welcome back to my featured weekly opinion of America’s Next Top Model! We had some fiery commercials, and fiery attitudes, so let’s get started!

The girls returned home after panel last week to see Alex’s picture up, and then they were off. Alex attempted to take what Tyra said about her attitude to heart, telling the viewers that if anyone took her attitude the wrong way, she needs to fix that. Well, as you see later in the episode, she might have heard Tyra, but she sure as hell didn’t listen. Anyway, Kasia spoke up against Alex winning best photo, talking with the other girls about how she didn’t think someone without a top model attitude should win best photo. I completely agree, Alex seriously needs to go home-she beautiful but she’s not a top model, she’s always acting in an unprofessional manner. Sara felt depressed being in the bottom two, and she believes her self-doubt put her there, she talked about trying to show the judges that she has confidence, and that coming from a poor background does not make her less of a woman.

Tyra mail came next, and if you read the recap you know what it was about. Geoffery Mac, who happens to be the designer that works with Lady GaGa, was hosting a runway show where the winner would receive two lovely dresses from his new collection. The runway has pillars of fire the girls were to walk through while their hands were on fire, and I thought it was pretty cool and absolutely challenging. Not only do they have to keep a straight face, and model with their palms up, they need to concentrate on being safe and attracting attention to their dress. ANTM is really pushing the limits this season to go all out high fashion, and so far I am not disappointed. At first almost all the girls were nervous, but after Alex went first, everyone seemed to put their nervous away and focus. Sara had the most trouble, she couldn’t get herself to light, and she really lacked the spark on the runway. The best walkers were Alex, Brittani, and Dayla while the worst were Sara, Kasia, and Hannah; Dayla was choosen as the winner. Jay had another surprise, though-he made the three worst walkers walk home! It was good for them though, because as they were walking home they actually practiced.

Instead of a photoshoot this week, the girls did a retro 60′s commercial where they were secretaries and had to help their boss make coffee sexy. Not as easy as it sounds. Francesco Carrozzini was their director, and the guest judge at panel this week, Jay told the girls to trust their director and that they need to be able to do this because a top model can read lines. They were set up in pairs, Kasia and Jaclyn, Sara and Mikaela, Alex and Brittani, Monique and Hannah, and Molly and Dayla. Molly and Dayla, and Monique and Hannah were not shown much, so we assume they did an alright job. This segment focused more on the three other pairs, and I can’t wait to tell you why. Kasia and Jaclyn did the best, they were both on target and gave the director exactly what he wanted. Later at panel, Tyra told them their commercial was one of the best top model moments ever and they made her proud. Sara and Mikaela, did not do well at all, Sara did not get into the character while Mikaela wasn’t really present. Mikaela thought Sara didn’t have enough confidence and thats why she wasn’t into it. Sara told us about how she tries to break away from the stereotypical woman and be more herself and unique. She didn’t believe in the whole thing from the beginning and it got in the way of allowing her to satisfy the client. Alex and Brittani were the biggest news by far though, and I bet you can guess why. That’s right, Miss Attitude could not keep herself together or do what was asked from her. They had some trouble, Alex kept being overly sexy and Brittani did not look natural, not fully present in the commercial. After a couple tries Brittani was getting frustrated, and she took a little break where Jay came to talk to her. Alex swooped in and started doing Jay’s job, mothering Brittani like a wounded puppy, you think thats nice? Wait to you hear the rest, after Brittani got back on set, Alex tried directing her to help her out, then she started fixing the light fixtures, then she started talking back to Jay and to the director. She was doing everyone’s job, trying to get everything to go her way, again. Totally not okay, and completely unprofessional, but thats nothing new.

In panel, Hannah was praised for her expressive eyes and body language and Monique was said to be have been pretty good as well. Dayla was said to have a cracked performance, and Molly was told she needed to make her speech more convincing. Sara was told she was not present, and Mikaela was told she had great photo moments but it didn’t do her any good in a commercial. Brittani was told that she can’t be in the background, she needs to be present and Alex was told that if she tried to take over the whole thing like she did today it was very likely that she would never be hired again. Kasia’s photo was the first to be called, because she did an amazing job and I thought she totally rocked it. It just shows you how awesome plus size models can be, I mean, seriously she was the only one who could make coffee sexy so easily. Jaclyn had the runner up, she was so adorable in the commercial, it was really smart of Tyra to put them together because they really worked with each other. Sara and Alex were in the bottom two, and I was so hoping and praying that Alex was going to go home. But alas, it is true, if you’re in the bottom two twice in a row its kind of like the plague, you’re out. Sara went home because she couldn’t show the judges she had the confidence to be a top model, and even though I liked her look, I can’t blame them because she really didn’t convince me eitehr. Hopefully Alex’s awful attitude will land her in the bottom two again next week and we can finally see her ugly personality go home.
