Report: Jay Leno To Be Replaced By … Jimmy Fallon

159435007.jpg.CROP.rectangle3-largeIt appears that the rumors are true and NBC is committed to transition “The Tonight Show” from host Jay Leno to Jimmy Fallon by no later than 2014. According to a report from the New York Times, a deal has yet to be made, but many network executives have been discussing this motion.

In addition, the show would shift location cross country – from California to New York City, where it all began with Steve Allen. It appears NBC has been “quietly” working on a new studio at famed “30 Rock” for this transition, expected to occur sometime in 2014. With recent jabs to the Peacock network during his monolouges of late, one must wonder if Leno had been tipped off about this recently.

The last time NBC attempted such a transition with Conan O’ Brien, it was reversed in a matter of months.

NBC Resurrects “The Sing-Off”

the-sing-offUpdate (March 20): NBC has announced the show will return during the 2013 holiday programming slate. Also of note this holiday season for NBC will be the LIVE “Sound of Music” stage production, starring Carrie Underwood.

After axing the show as a consequence of poor ratings during its fall showing in 2011, NBC is reviving its a cappella singing competition – The Sing Off. The change of heart may stem from the success of most recent champ and highly talented group, Pentatonix. Per NBC’s casting site (click to apply for casting),

The Sing Off is back! America’s top A Cappella competition is gearing up for season 4 of the hit series. The most talented A Cappella groups will compete for the opportunity to win $100,000 and a Sony Recording Contract. No lip synching, back-up bands or safety net is allowed; this is the real deal!
Each week, A Cappella groups from around the country will sing the world’s most popular songs, arranged and performed like you’ve never heard them before. One group will be eliminated each episode, and America will decide in our live finale who will be the nation’s best a cappella group, and walk away with the ultimate prize.

There will also be some national casting calls this spring. Check out the dates below and go audition if you think you have what it takes!

Season four will air during the holiday season, late this year. No word yet on whether Nick Lachey will hold post as host. If you ask us, Lachey should return, as should Sara Bareillis, Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds as judges. NBC is unlikely to air The Sing-Off during the fall again, as it has been announced that The Voice will air twice a year. Look for The Sing Off to air either this summer or during the holiday season as in years past.

The CW Revives “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” For Summer

WhoseLineUSSummer just got funnier, as the CW network revealed plans to revive “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” this summer. The network ordered ten episodes of the series and announced plans to move forward without Drew Carey as host; however, Aisha Tyler will take over the rein.

RELATED | CW Season Finale Dates

Regulars Ryan Stiles, Wayne Brady & Colin Mochrie will be returning to the roles they held for eight seasons when the show lived over on ABC (from 1998-2004). Each episode, the gang will be joined by a special guest star and go through a series of improv games, as in the original. Tyler will hand out points for achievement.

The CW has not revealed a premiere date but we do know it will be coming this summer.

“SYTYCD” Gets Premiere Date For Season 10, Plus Fox Season Finale Dates, Summer Premieres

cp_yak_sytycdWhile the CW has been the only broadcast network to mark out it’s season finale plans, Fox today announced the premiere of one of it’s summer staples (and largely underrated show, if you ask me) – So You Think You Can Dance – as well as season ender dates. SYTYCD is currently travelling around the country looking for America’s Favorite Dancer for the upcoming tenth season. There are two more audition dates remaining – Memphis (with guest judge Wayne Brady) on March 14 and Los Angeles (with guest Jesse Tyler Ferguson) on March 22. Minnie Driver, “tWitch,” and Adam Shankman have attended auditions earlier this year.

Season 10 is set to premiere Tuesday May 14 at 8/7c on Fox. While it remains unclear if the show will move to its usual slot on Wednesday after American Idol completes its season, we do know that Fox has decided to keep SYTYCD to a once-a-week format, mimicking the changes from last season where performances and results all will be jam packed into two hours. The show is premiering a tad bit earlier this season than in the past, so we’ll see how that plays out this summer!

Also premiering this summer for Fox – Hell’s Kitchen on May 6 at 9/8c, with Fox’s new reality series Does Someone Have To Go? getting a sneak peek following Idol on May 15. The Goodwin Games premieres May 20 at 8:30/7:30c, MasterChef on May 22 at 8/7c, and Animation Domination High-Def on July 27 at 11/10c. Hell’s Kitchen moves to Thursdays at 9/8c on May 23 after Does Someone Have To Go? officially kicks off at 8/7c that night.

Per Fox, on Does Someone Have To Go the boardroom doors get blown wide open when employees are given the power to make some tough decisions. Frustrated bosses will hand over the reins of their companies to the employees, offering their respective staffs a chance to make changes in the workplace – even if it means letting co-workers go. Each participating office will have its own set of issues, which will force them to take a hard look at what’s plaguing their workplace and answer the toughest question of all: DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO? is Fox’s latest venture into reality where companies can lay off or fire colleagues on TV.

NBC’s “Hollywood Game Night” Names Host: Jane Lynch

nbc logoEmmy winning actress Jane Lynch has been tapped to join NBC’s latest venture, “Hollywood Game Night.” The “Glee” star will act as hostess for the eight-episode series. The reality series comes from “Grimm” producer Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Unlike other celebrity type shows, NBC claims that this show will feature A-list celebrities getting together with non-celebrities and playing games with them in what the network claims to be a “cocktail party atmosphere.”

There is no set air date for the show, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it air as early as the summer of 2013. Or maybe it will act as NBC’s holiday time special game show. Paul Telegdy, NBC’s boss for Alternative Programming had praises to sing about Lynch in a statement released Friday afternoon.

“With Jane Lynch on board as our host, we now have a key component in place that will further enliven the sheer fun of a raucous Hollywood party that will include real everyday people. Her exuberant wit and ability to think quickly will be the perfect match for our show which will give viewers a fresh look inside the off-set lives of their favorite celebrities — and allow them a chance to win money as well.”

Yak Roundup: Did Adele Really Give It to Chris Brown? And More TV News…

adele-chris-brown-1360693397All over the interwebs, sites mislead and misguide readers all over based on one simple picture. What many may have you to believe is that Adele wasn’t having Chris Brown not giving Frank Ocean a standing O after losing to him. And her solution? Yell at him, likely based on anger from the Rihanna fiasco. But what many aren’t sharing is the following photo (seen below) where Adele and Chris Brown are happily posing for a photo op. There really is no proof whether Adele and Brown shared some beef or if they had just a casual Grammy encounter.

In more music news, the country music Hall of Fame has plans to bring a Blown Away Tour exhibit to Music City, celebrating Grammy winner Carrie Underwood’s latest successful tour. The exhibit opens early June and will be open until mid-November and will feature clothing, set pieces, mics and other special memorabilia from Underwood’s latest tour.

adele-chris-brown-2-1360693428In TV news, Showtime has released a trailer teasing The Big C: Hereafter, which returns in April. The show’s final mini-season promises to be an emotional roller coaster. Also from Showtime, a full length trailer of Ray Donovan, which premieres after Dexter on June 30, has been released. Yak Roundup: Grammys Request Clothes, TV Friends Reunion, iTune’s 25 Billion Sales

tvyakAs but a supplement to our reports and features here at YakkityYaks, we’d like to (re)introduce our Yak Roundup where we will sift through some of the days news and round them up in our stable. On today’s agenda, the Grammys send an odd email to those attending Sunday’s big show, plus a Friends reunion coming to a TV near you and just who is iTunes 25,000,000,000th song sold?

Problematic Thongs at the Grammys |

Late Wednesday afternoon, the Grammys and CBS sent an email to those that will be in attendance Sunday night when the Grammys air LIVE from the Staples Center in LA. What was the subject of this email, you ask? Well, it was your typical “Subject: 55th GRAMMYS: Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory.” The email speaks for itself, so we’ve procured a copy for your reading pleasure.

CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.

Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.

Go On - Season 1

Monica & Chandler Bing Reunited |

NBC announced a Friends reunion that will take place on their freshman comedy “Go On.” Matthew Perry and Courtney Cox will reunite on screen when Cox guest stars as a potential love interest for Perry’s character on the NBC sitcom. The guest stint will likely air on an episode in April and will be introduced to Ryan King through Anne (Julie White). Here’s hoping this guest stint turns into a potential recurring character!

iTunes Hits 25 Billionth Song Sold |

Wednesday afternoon marked the record number sale for iTunes. Since it’s inception, the platform has now sold more than 25 billion songs. What song made the cut for this bit of trivia you’ll want to use to impress your friends? “Monkey Drums (Goskel Vancin Remix)” by Chase Buch. The company released a statement on Wednesday saying that Phillip Lupke of Germany made the record purchase. As a reward, he will receive a 10,000 Euros iTunes gift card, equivalent to about $13,500. The store launched just under 10 years ago and has just hit the milestone before it’s 10th Anniversary this April.

In reality news, MTV has renewed “Buckwild” for a second season, while E! announced plans to bring you a reality series centered around boy band sensation The Wanted. The series will be produced by Ryan Seacrest Productions.
