Michaels had said that he ignored the advice of his MDs, and did the show anyway, performing a duet with 3rd place finalist Casey James. Michaels, who as you know has been in and out of the hospital recently is still recovering from his near fatal brain hemorrhage and recent stroke, received a standing ovation from the Idol crowd when he came out crooning “Every Rose has it’s Thorn.”Details
[singlepic id=245 w=180 h=100 float=left]Just heard the horrible news that Gary Coleman has passed away at the age of 42 from a brain hemorrhage. Coleman gained his stardom after playing younger brother “Arnold” on the hit series ‘Different Strokes’ in 1978 at the tender age of 10. In his later years, he had been plagued with…Details
[singlepic id=244 w=280 h=190 float=right]Less than 24 hours after Lee was announced as winner of American Idol, both Lee and Crystal have now signed at the bottom line. Yep, both have their deals signed and sealed! According to the Crystal Bowersox Blog (and a great big thanks to them for keeping us updated on Crystal…Details
The 2010 season started off very nice, with some terrific dancers! Most notably missing from the action however was Mary Murphy, whom I know many, many people miss dearly. I was a fan of her dance knowledge, but not so much the screaming fits she would have. To each their own thought! Many in our forum outright miss her and think the new panel is too subdued. I actually enjoyed it. I am also very happy to see Mia Michaels returning to the show, and really hope she will be choreographing many of the dances this year. No one beats her in my opinion. She has always been the choreographer on the dances that touch me most.
The dancer that made it through that stood out the most to me last night however was Teddy. You may remember him last year, little blond kid who was wearing a very stand out lime green with plaid-ish shirt – I loved his dancing last year, seemed whimsical. Last year unfortunately, he didn’t make it out of the Vegas rounds. This year for his audition, he dressed all in a black suit and tie, and did an incredible, and incredibly sad dance, seeming to end with a sad little boy deciding to end his life. It was certainly touching, and he had so emotion in it. It was terrific.
Now for those of you that are fans of the show, you know that this year, SYTYCD powers that be have decided to change up the format. This year, instead of 20 contestants (10 couples) they have decided to only go with 10 contestants. Dancing as their partner with them will be “All-Stars” from seasons past. I am really excited to see some of the All Stars they plan on bringing back. I have included a list of the “All Stars” due to come back to dance this season at the bottom of this post. Also different this year, only one dancer will leave each week, and they will switch partners weekly.Details
[singlepic id=242 w=120 h=140 float=right]It has been reported that Alicia Keys is now expecting her first child, and is engaged to be married to Producer Swizz Beatz. Beatz has written songs for such artists as Beyonce, Jay Z and many others. Beatz was married previously and has two children of his own. They plan on…Details
The finale: Now I don’t know if it’s my age, my taste, a little bit of both, but I personally thought this was one of the best finales AI had ever had. It almost felt like they called me, and asked who I would like to see perform. Christina was amazing as usual and I loved her new song, Janet was a terrific surprise although that first song she sang sounded eerily like Michael to me (Plus I would have loved to see Paula out there dancing during “Nasty Boys” seeing as she was a choreographer on the video. I wonder if they made up yet? I know they had a major falling out years ago), Michael McDonald was awesome (couldn’t believe he was there since he is noticeably absent from the Doobies ALWAYS), Joe Cocker was great, the Bee Gee’s, Hall and Oates, Chicago, all wonderful, and the surprise visit from Bret Michaels was real neat, although I’m not sure he should be doing things against his doctors orders, probably not smart… I have to say though my favorite moment was Alanis. The notable change in lyric on “You Oughta Know” (from “Would she go down on you in a theater” to “would she go down with you to a theater”) made me chuckle out loud. I just wish that segment would have lasted longer, although I know (since I know the lyrics to that song) that there wasn’t too much further they could have gone with that song without getting crazy with the changes or the sensor button!Details
We have done our research, and are 95% sure we had ourselves an Adam Lambert sighting at Starbucks in Malibu Ca. Note the black nail polish, sunglasses, pompadour hairdo, earrings and the purple in the hair (as seen on AI this last week). What you are unable to note is the height and voice, however…Details
More and more on the internets, I am finding that Crystal already has several original songs written by none other than herself. It would be nice if these songs were already for sale, or an album to be had! Alas, they are not yet available, but hopefully, in the near future, they will be.
This Yakster (and many others in the forum) are big fans of hers. She is a “modern” throwback if you will, with the soul to sing songs from the likes of Janis Joplin to Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt to Alanis Morrisette. I wouldn’t mind hearing her belt out a meaningful Pink ballad as well. She is current, and quite frankly, too good for the AI amateur stage. Don’t get me wrong, I am so glad she found her way there, and I really hope she can use this experience and platform to push her up to the stardom she so rightly deserves. I am truly jealous of those who had the honor of hearing her play on the street. She fills the gap for the young acoustic hippie that this tree hugger was definitely missing. She is looking to have her guitar signed by powerful women, and I’m most confident that she should be signing it herself as well.
This coming week, Adam Lambert is the mentor on the show. Now I know, there are MANY Lambert fans out there, (of which I am not one…sorry) but I gotta say, huh? How is he even remotely qualified to be a mentor? He has not even been off the show a full year, isn’t that widely successful (yet) and didn’t even win… So I really don’t get it. This should be interesting, especially for an artist like Crystal. What advice could he possibly have for her? I guess we will see?? Just weird. I will say I am very happy that Crystal continues to do her own thing. She already knows who she is, the artist she is, and needs to change nothing. Kara has from the start given her the wrong advice. Hopefully she continues to listen to herself, and even Simon Cowell has agreed.
Here is another treat, an original by Crystal called “Mama” – A big thanks to the Crystal Bowersox Blog who posts all these gems from her. Would love to know if we will ever be able to get our hands on these songs. I would really like to put them on my ipod to take with me on my drives and chill time! Give it a listen, then come join us in the forum to let us know what you think!
Oh and… let’s throw some votes over to Big Mike this week as well peeps! This wonderful positive soul should NOT be leaving this show this early!Details
Well, American Idol 2010 is off to a, well, start. So far I really haven’t been all that impressed with this years crop, minus a few. (Which I have a feeling not many have, seeing as we haven’t posted much about it on the front page.) I do like “Big Mike” Lynche, Lilly Scott, Lee…Details
[singlepic id=180 w=320 h=240 float=left]For those of you that watch SYTYCD, what a terrific season finale it was last night. The top 4 dancers were definitely the most deserving of the bunch… America certainly got it right this time. The final four consisted of Jakob, Russell, Ellenore and Kathryn, and to this watcher, those were…Details
