CBS announced today that Big Brother has been renewed for a 16th season. Big Brother After Dark was also renewed.
Big Brother started it’s run back in 2000, and this year, regardless of the racism and controversy, averaged 7.29 million viewers which is a 11% growth from last season.
The finale of the current season will air on Sept. 18th.
Hopefully, with the renewal, Executive Producer Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan will take some time to reflect on casting, twists and the basic production of the show. Fans have been wanting, and asking for, the show to go back to it’s roots. Cast normal people like they used to. Let them compete for food and general “luxuries” like a microwave and clock. Those of us veterans that have watched since it’s beginnings are drawn more to the social experiment Big Brother is, not the wanna-be actors or beauty queens. Some of the most riveting houseguests have always been fans of the show and have applied, not been recruited. Give the fans a chance to impress!
Unfortunately, with the bump in viewership and the past disappointments the veteran fans face year after year, we are not hopeful for any changes, but one can wish!
