Police believe they have solved the murder of Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen. They do not believe it was a professional “hit”, but rather a robbery gone bad. They also believe that her murderer was Harold Martin Smith, the man who committed suicide (by shooting himself) when approached by police recently.
The reason why they believe this? The gun he used to kill himself was the same gun used to gun down Ms. Chasen, according to ballistics reports. So, it was a random act of violence which took out a Hollywood icon, and police also believe Smith acted alone. He had bragged previously of committing the murder, and it is believed that he may have approached her car on his bike.
