Britney Spears Nearing ‘X Factor’ Deal

After Simon Cowell got rid of Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul in an effort to retool a show that many felt didn’t live up to it’s pre-show hype, fans and others in the industry wondered who Cowell will bring into the mix. With shows like American Idol upping the anty and bringing in Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler last season and The Voice using the expertise of Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Adam Levine, we knew The X Factor wasn’t going to be far behind in bringing in big name blockbuster artists to fill those judging seats in between LA Reid and Simon. The question was who?

ABC Announces Superstars for new singing competition, Duets

With names like Whitney Houston (before her shocking death) and Janet Jackson being thrown around, we knew Cowell wasn’t going for just anyone. Then Britney Spears was thrown into the mix, and that suspicion might just become a reality. Sources very close to the Fox hit have confirmed that a deal is nearing to put pop icon Britney Spears at the judges table. Britney’s agent, who happens to also be her fiance, Jason Trawick, is negotiating the contract that could be signed as early as next week. Britney was reportedly offered $10 million to do the show, but she’s allegedly holding out for a special $16 million.

Cowell has alluded to “twists and surprises” that will be announced in the coming weeks as auditions for the X Factor’s second season (to air this fall) kick off this month.

Spears’ representative has not made a comment about the situation, but it’ll be more of a surprise if this deal falls through and Spears doesn’t join her Mouseketeer cohort (Aguilera) as the face of a hit network singing competition.

What do you think? Is Britney Spears the right woman for the job? Will she provide the necessary criticism the show needs?
