Science meets greed in this gloriously-filmed movie from director James Cameron. It’s been in the works for several years- only taking a backseat to wait for technology to catch up to his vision. As we end this decade and enter the next, we wanted to take a minute to look back at the year and all it’s ups, downs, and in-betweens. I LOVED the quick synopsis of this movie: girl is kidnapped and sold into a brothel; she meets a man…a man with MONEY!! Other girls in brothel are haters and give her a hard time. Okay, that was pretty quick and it’s pretty much what I read to make me rent it.
MY Synopsis: Girl is kidnapped by some criminal who was ratted out by girl’s father. Criminal decided to give the father the finger by selling the girl into a brothel. (It would REALLY be giving the father the finger if he knew what the criminal did…even years later.) The girl grows up to be a beautiful songstress. The girls aren’t even giving her a hard time in the brothel; they even seem to like her. Girl meets a man…with MONEY! He falls in love with her and he visits her all the time. The catch: Oopsie, his dad says “Hell no! I’m not supporting your little relationship with a whore! If you don’t cut her off, I’m cutting YOU off of my money!” *GASP* Dumb man chooses the woman, but the brothel keeper doesn’t want him coming there without the money! Business is business. Okay. Sounds exciting…until you watch it!! I was intrigued by this story when I read about it, but you don’t know which way is up when you’re watching it. The actors don’t even kiss!!! You don’t know if she’s screwing or not screwing– therefore, telling us if she’s an ‘experienced’ courtesan- which would help the story further down the line! The biggest NO-NO: breaking into song! (Thank goodness for ‘fast forward’) Okay, obviously this is Bollywood– but “HUH?” The guy would just stand there, looking doofy, while she’s singing. Oh yeah: The ending ain’t happy! The Emmy award winning reality series, The Amazing Race, has seen it’s ups and downs during it’s many seasons but on the November 15th, 2009 episode it hit a big snag in the eyes of many viewers. Join us in our forum to discuss! But let’s set the stage. During a roadblock, which is a task only one team member can perform, the teams were instructed to go to this mysterious building in Estonia. They were sent with a keyring full of keys and instructed that only one key would open the door, but they had to use their key to open it and the keyhole was in a stone wall. At one point during this task, Sam and Dan, brothers, used another teams key once it was known which key worked, to enter the building, obviously saving them an immeasurable amount of time. Then the Globetrotters team followed another team in, once that team had found which key worked, effectively skipping the assigned task of not even having to go through their keys. This also saved them an immeasurable amount of time. Meanwhile, the father and son team of Gary and Matt, who placed last in the previous leg and had to do a Speed Bump, while not quite caught up due to that Speed Bump weren’t apparently that far behind unless the CBS editing made it look that way.
It’s been 10 years since ‘The Blair Witch Project’, a small, independent film made with handheld cameras terrorized moviegoers and made a fortune for the moviemakers. And now we have ‘Paranormal Activity’! Made for a paltry 15 thousand dollars, this lovely little gem tells the story of a suburban couple who become terrifed about the demonic phenomena that they capture on home-security cameras. This article writer hasn’t seen it yet, but from this trailer alone it scared the living hell out of her! And from all the reviews, if you can handle the suspense, it’s totally worth seeing! JUST DON’T GO ALONE, LOL! Since it’s release, it’s pulled in 62.5 MILLION dollars. That’s millions, folks. Basically, when you break it down, it’s made a profit of 4,166.666666%!!! That’s astronomical compared to what other movies pull in, even those with bigger numbers b/c you have to take into account what it cost for the big budget movies to be made!
