Aside from what we have speculated when The Amazing Race began filming late last year, CBS has now confirmed that Big Brother’s power couple Rachel Reilly and Brendon Villegas have been cast as part of the Amazing Race 20. It seems the the thoughts on the new season, so far, are not too split. No one stood out last night as a team to love or a team to hate. I’m sure, the further we get in the season, teams will pick up those titles, and I doubt it will be long. Below I will share my thoughts on teams that stood out in last nights episode:

The self-proclaimed “smart” team of Kaylani and Lisa, friends and cocktail waitresses from Las Vegas, seemed to start off not too smart, one of them losing their passport. Thanks to a couple guys at a gas station and Twitter, the passport was brought to the airport, allowing the team to continue the race. (That was pretty cool of those guys.) They seemed to redeem themselves however later in the race when they picked up on the Confucius saying quickly, and took the bungee leap without hesitation.

Ethan and Jenna, former Survivor contestants and Ethan, a cancer survivor, thought they would be able to fool the other racers somehow and not let them know they were on Survivor, thus, putting a big target on them. Well, that didn’t last long as all the other teams discussed it at the airport. So much for that cover eh?

Liz and Marie, the two blond twins, seems they may drama this season. Unable to get the Confucius saying for a long, long time, it seemed to already spark arguments. Of all the teams, they actually annoyed me the most last night, although none really stood out as horrible… yet.

Justin and Jennifer, brother and sister from Georgia. This team looks to be some major drama, and I haven’t yet decided who it is that starts it. It seemed by last night’s episode that Jennifer appeared to be the drama queen, but who knows… maybe he is a button presser. I guess we will find out as the Race goes on. Constant drama and I will begin disliking this team.

Amani and Marcus, married couple from Georgia, and Marcus a former Pro NFL player. So far, this seems like one of the teams that may become a favorite of mine. They work together well, cheer one another on, and race pretty hard. We will see if they hold that title with me.

Last but not least, a team that stood out in last night’s episode, Bill and Cathi, married grandparents from New York. Seriously, do they think they are on vacation here? They seem like very nice people, but certainly not made for the Race. They walked around like they were tourists taking in the sights. They never seemed they were in much of a hurry. Hearing them talk about how they “think the ran a good race” puzzled me. You didn’t even make one leg? How is that a good race? Once they FINALLY strolled to the pit stop, they were told it was a non-elimination leg and will incur a penalty on the next leg. That was a bit of a disappointment to me, as I would rather see a stronger team, a hard working team, have that opportunity, but alas, it wasn’t in the cards.

Next week, Phil explained, will be the first ever double elimination on The Amazing Race. I could probably say with certainty that we will be saying goodbye to Bill and Cathi next week, which really, just nulled one of the non-eliminations this season. It will take a miracle to not see them leave next week, but hey, crazier things have happened, so who knows for sure, right?

Andy and Tommy: Olympic Snowboarder who have been friends over 13 years. They want to compete hard on the race, but have fun and ditch the serious. They refer to themselves as loose cannons. Hopefully, the will mean they bring some drama to the race.

Ethan and Jenna: You know the two from Survivor, but they are now ready to run The Amazing Race. Ethan, having survived Cancer in 2009, has a new lease on life and hopes TAR to be a terrific experience. Jenna is looking forward to more time to bond with Ethan.

Bill and Cathi: Married from New York, the oldest team on this seasons race, in their early sixties. When describing their biggest challenges to get through on the race, Bill says Cathi gets her feeling hurt easily when he points out she is wrong about something, and Cathi says they can both be bossy. Look for some fights on this team.

Amani and Marcus: Married couple from Georgia. Their biggest challenge with one another going into the race? Amani says Marcus has selective hearing and hopes he will listen to her on the Race. Marcus says Amani asks questions in fragments, asking things like “Baby, Money?” and responds with “Money what!” I guess that explains the selective hearing thing!

Ernie and Cindy: Engaged couple from Chicago. Ernie says his biggest challenge is getting his point across in a direct way, saying that he can be very vague, while Cindy says Ernie needs to be more direct with her. Look for this team to get lost somewhere.

Jeremy and Sandy: Dating couple from California. As for their biggest challenge on the race? Jeremy says they have never had to communicate under pressure, while Sandy says Jeremy is a great communicator and very passionate and emotional, but he hasn’t had the experience of seeing her open up that way yet. We will see how they get along under the ultimate pressure.

Justin and Jennifer: Siblings from Georgia. Jeremy says their biggest challenge will be when Sandy shuts down because of being tired or hungry, and gets pretty mean when she does. Jennifer says Justin always sees her as the little sister, always double checking her. She hopes he can get past that so it doesn’t slow them down. Look for some sibling arguments here.

Kaylani and Lisa: Cocktail Waitresses from Las Vegas. (For the Big Brother fans, does that make you think of anyone?) They say they are bull headed when they have made up their mind on what to do, so overcoming and agreeing on things might be an issue. I am guessing these two will be the flirts of the race.

Laurence and Zac: Father and Son from Thousand Oaks, California. Laurence is a Yacht Manager, and Zac a Boat Captain making deliveries around the world. The both hope to be able to keep a level head under the pressure. They will use their endurance, water and mapping skills to good use on the race. Expect them to do really well at all water challenges.

Liz and Marie: Twin sisters from Illinois. While Liz says their biggest challenge will be, because they are so close, to not pick at each others faults creating a fight, Marie says that Liz needs to think things through before reacting, which results in many of their fights. Basically, Liz wants to not point out faults while Marie points out Liz’s faults. Should be an interesting dynamic.

Ron and Bill: Domestic Partners from California. Ron and Bill both claim they communicate very openly and well, and hope it will continue under the pressure of the race. Pet Peeves? Ron says Bill has a tendency to use “word inflation” whereas Bill says Ron can get moody. I am expecting to learn new words from this team.

Production on The Amazing Race just started yesterday and we already know at least one team on the Race. Ethan Zohn and Jenna Morasca from Survivor are confirmed to be among the teams racing for next season’s 1 million dollar prize.

This, of course, isn’t the first Survivor couple to jump into the Race. Rob and Amber of course actually ran in two seasons. Big Brother also has had their houseguests enter the race with Jeff and Jordan, and Allison and Donny.

No spoilers yet of course on how far they have gone, since production just started yesterday. We do know they made their flight at LAX however, which means The Amazing Race 19 seems to be taking off out of Los Angeles once again.

The Amazing Race 19 is set to premier in Fall, 2011.

Although many adored Ethan and Jenna, I’m still not so sure how I feel about all the recycling of Reality show participants. I mean, a part of me would like to see all new people get themselves a chance, but another part of me likes certain characters and would like to see them compete in a different kind of competition. Ah well, I guess CBS has made up my mind for me.

CBS has ordered the 20th installment of the seven-time Emmy Award-winning reality series, THE AMAZING RACE, hosted by Phil Keoghan, for broadcast during the 2011-2012 season.

THE AMAZING RACE concluded its 18th installment, “Unfinished Business,” on May 8, 2011, which featured former fan favorites returning for a second shot at the one million dollar prize. During the season finale, sisters LaKisha Hoffman and Jennifer Hoffman narrowly ousted Herb Lang and Nate Lofton (the Harlem Globetrotters) to win the Race.

Last season’s two editions of THE AMAZING RACE averaged 11.19 million viewers, 3.4/09 in adults 18-49 and 4.4/10 in adults 25-54.

The 19th installment of THE AMAZING RACE will air this fall, Sundays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Season 20 is scheduled for broadcast in spring 2012.

Well, the Unfinished Business is done. The Amazing Race had it’s season finale, and well, I am already in withdrawal. The sister team of Kisha and Jen walked away with the cool $1 mil prize, with The Globetrotters hot on their trail coming in second. Gary and Mallory, who had trouble with slow and lost cabs in this last leg came in a distant third.

Out of the three, I will admit the winners weren’t who I was rooting for. Not that I think they are bad people, I just liked the other two teams much better, and would have liked to have seen either one of them pull it off. Plus, the “bitch” comment (referring to Luke) in their season still set the stage for me on the sister team. I guess I should let it go already!

It was nice to hear what the duo planned for the money, helping out their mom start a business. I still hold out hope my children will do the same for me when the time comes. So a big WAY TO GO from the Yak to Kisha and Jen! Shout outs to the second and third place teams, and well, all the teams for an exceptional season. You all most certainly made it a great watch!

While I’m at it, kudos to The Amazing Race Production team for the breathtaking views in HD, making me actually shed some tears this season (Margie and Luke Tea Challenge) and having the teams help out in countries that truly need the help. There is a reason why this show gets an Emmy every year! I can’t wait for next season!

Hard to believe that we are this close to the finale of The Amazing Race… I’m a little sad actually! However, CBS has announced that the season finale will air on Sunday, May 8. Yep, just a mere month away, season 18 will come to a close. The finale is set to be a two hour finale, airing from 8pm – 10pm Eastern Time.

As we previously reported, CBS also announced recently that The Amazing Race was picked up for one more season, which will mark the show’s 19th trek around the world. We sure hope it is picked up again, and again and again. (It’s this writer’s absolute favorite Reality Show on air.) The new season is currently casting it’s new set of racers. CBS renewed it’s very popular Sunday Reality shows today, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss! Great news for us fans! In a statement released by CBS:

CBS has renewed its Sunday reality series-THE AMAZING RACE and UNDERCOVER BOSS-for broadcast during the 2011-2012 season.

THE AMAZING RACE, hosted by Phil Keoghan, will make its 19 ^th sprint around the world next season. The recent fall edition delivered nearly 12 million viewers, matching the prior year in viewers while posting gains in both adults 25-54 (+2%) and adults 18-49 (+3%), despite airing against “Sunday Night Football.”

The current edition of THE AMAZING RACE features a unique twist with the return of 11 fan-favorite teams who fell short of winning the million dollar prize during their first race around the world. It also marks the first edition of the show to be broadcast in high definition.

THE AMAZING RACE is a seven-time Emmy Award winner for “Outstanding Reality Competition Program.”

Odd I know, but The Amazing Race last night was such an emotional roller coaster! I really hope I’m not the only one!

It all began with the racers leaving the mat in China. Their first task was to go to a local tea shop, have a specific tea made for them (Mango and Papaya), and drink it for their next clue. Leaving the mat, racers were quite displeased that they had to remain in China. I guess they didn’t like riding our Yak? The racers thought the tea task to not only be too simple, but even stated it was just about worthless. What they didn’t know, is that once in their next destination, India, the tea would come back to haunt them.

The clue at the tea shop led them to the airport to fly to India. All teams were on the same flight. I am assuming there was no drama at the airport, since the airport never even made the cut. Once landing in India, the teams had to make their way to the local Town Hall. Since they arrived in the middle of the night, the racers had to sleep outside, which apparently, many of the locals do already. Once the Town Hall opened, they hit their Road Block: Find the exact tea they had in China, drink it, and present it to the head dude who will give them their next clue. There were what appeared to be thousands of cups of tea on this long table. Some racers used their noses to smell the tea before picking it up and drinking it. This proved to be useful, as it appeared the teams that did that were the first to get out of there. Ron was the first to find the correct tea, only having to drink one cup, but this task proved really difficult for others. No one seemed to deploy Ron’s smelling tactic, at least not until later, and some never did. Mallory looked as if she was going to be ill throughout the challenge, Zev broke a cup in frustration and Luke broke down crying. It was horrible. The last teams to get out of this challenge were the Globetrotters and Margie and Luke. We will revisit this task…

The clue for their next task was located in the lid of a bottle of Snapple. It took a short while for most teams to figure out where the clue was located, but Kisha and Jen ran around with the bottle for what seemed like a long, long time, asking passerby’s and cab drivers where in India do they make this Snapple Tea. It wasn’t until one local told them that “maybe it says in the lid” that they thought to look, and lo and behold, it led them to their next clue, the Detour.

At the Detour, teams had their choice of painting and dressing a statue of one of the Hindu Gods, or delivering books to a local Primary School in the back of a little yellow school bus rickshaw. The teams split pretty much down the middle on the choices, but it did seem in editing that the school book delivery was the quicker task. Ron had a hard time with the loud music playing at the painting task, wearing head phones and declaring “I can’t disco when I’m painting”, and the Goth’s loved the task, painting eyebrows on the statue saying “We draw on eyebrows every day. It was kind of like us getting ready in the morning.” Gary and Mallory, who decided to deliver the books, was the first team to arrive at the mat. Their prize for being the first team? Snapple Limited Edition Tea if course! (I’m sure Mallory appreciated that.) Just when it looked like that’s all they were going to get, Phil added an scrumptious Indian meal complete with a Bollywood Dance performance, and $1 million Rupees (amounting to $20,000 American Money.) Now that is something to appreciate!

Now let’s return to the unfortunate road block. While all the other teams were making their way around India, painting statues and delivering school books, still drinking tea were Luke and Flight Time, both teams that are definitely my favorites, so I was very unhappy to see them both still trying to complete this task. It was, however, good to see two of the most genuinely nice teams rooting one another on. Flight Time finally, after drinking cup after cup in hopes of getting lucky, found the right one and received their clue, leaving Luke still at the table. Luke broke down. It was so sad… Margie, ever the wonderful mom, hugged him, supported him, told him how proud she was of him. He let her know that he would not give up. In the meantime, all the workers in the town hall began to cheer him on. Once he found the right one, the workers lifted him up and carried him like the champion he was. What an absolute wonderful moment. Margie hugged each one of them as a thanks before moving on to their next task. They chose painting the statue, with the Globetrotters still there finishing up their task. Once the Globetrotters finished, before they left to the pitstop, they hugged both Margie and Luke, wishing them luck. One class act they are.

So, Margie and Luke indeed came in last, and were eliminated from the race. Again, Luke broke down, and at this point, so did I, a little. Yeah I admit, I teared up. Luke said he was “sorry” to his mother at the news, to which Margie replied that it wasn’t his fault. They are simply terrific people, and I was sad to see them go.

This is precisely why this is my favorite show on television. Between the awesome places we get to visit through our televisions, and the humanity and emotion we get to experience along with them, it’s top notch. What did you think? The Amazing Race’s host, Phil Keoghan has a new web series called “Phil’s Diaries”, depicting behind the scenes footage of The Amazing Race. The videos are actually very interesting. Phil, who absolutely loves to travel, is able to share all of his travel wisdom with us, as well as show us behind the scenes tidbits we would have never known.

As you know, last week in China, our Yak himself starred in one of the challenges the racers had to face, allowing the racer to ride on his back down a waterfall to receive their next clue. We saw pictures of the racers on their back, even a picture of Phil with the Yak. Well, turns out riding Yaks is not all they do over yonder in China, they also grill them! Seen below is Phil’s video diary of the trip, where he tries grilled Yak meat for the first time. We will give Phil credit here for saying that he doesn’t feel all that comfortable eating the animal he just tried to get a good shot (picture) with, but to Barry the sound guy, we say SLOW YOUR ROLL!

Our beloved Yak, Yak Nicholson, has been disappearing lately, and we have been wondering what he has been up to. Well, now we know. He has been spotted on The Amazing Race!

Yes, that’s right, the Yak and his friends have co-starring roles tonight, carrying the current racers down a waterfall and through a river. Looks like he even got backstage make-up for this one! (We just wonder how much he got paid for this, and whether or not this will go to his head.) He tells us that the easiest team member to carry was Cord, as he knew, somewhat, how to ride. He also says that the most fun rider was Mallory, and Justin kept him nice and warm.

At his request, we have included a few pictures below to show off his “Yak Skillz” as he likes to call them. So, enjoy, and he would also like you to leave a “fan message” to him below. Miss the premier of The Amazing Race? We got you covered! Here is a quick(ish) recap plus a bit of info on a budding alliance! If you intend on watching it later, note this will spoil it for you!

Last Night, on the Amazing Race:

Eleven familiar teams began the Race from Palm Springs, California. All 11 were familiar faces from seasons past with ‘Unfinished Business’. Basically, it’s an all-star episode full of teams that did not win previously.

Phil explained the rules as usual, however there would be some new exciting and challenging obstacles, beginning with leg one. First, the teams had to find a paper airplane in the wind blown field across the street from them, depicting the airline that flies  to “Queensland and the Northern Territories.” Once found, they must bring their answer to Phil to receive their first clue. He issues a warning: Whoever receives their first clue last would receive an automatic U-Turn (having to do both detour tasks) on the second leg. In addition, the first 8 who bring back the correct airline would be on the first flight, with the rest on a flight that lands at their destination 90 minutes later. The first team arriving at the mat this leg would also win the coveted “Express Pass”, allowing them to skip a challenge at any point during the race.

“Good luck, travel safe, GO!” A very exciting exclamation to this writer, you gotta love this show! All teams run across the road to find the right airline. Finding the correct airline (Qantas) and getting on the first flight to their first destination of Sidney, Austrailia (in order) were: Mel and Mike, Zev and Justin, Jet and Cord, Kent and Vyxsin, Ron and Christina, Flight Time and Big Easy, Margie and Luke, and Jaime and Cara. On the second flight in this order: Kisha and Jen, Gary and Mallory and Amanda and Kris. (The latter receiving the auto-u-turn come next leg.)

Flights usually go pretty scheduled, but the first flight carrying 8 teams had to land in Honolulu, HI. because a passenger on the plane had a heart attack, and had to be taken from the plane. This allowed the second flight to actually land first in Sidney, giving the teams that left last from the starting line an almost half hour advantage.

Once in Sidney, the teams first clue led them to their first Road Block, an aquarium full of sharks and eels. One team member had to go diving into the aquarium to locate a large compass. Once grabbing the compass from the water, they had to decipher a code on the compass using flags, which would give them the location of their next clue and how to get it.

First team to arrive at the aquarium was Gary and Mallory. Mallory decided do the dive and puzzle. She actually did the task pretty quickly, and was the first to arrive at their second destination.

In the meantime, the second plane finally landed, the teams ran to catch the connecting train leading to their next clue. Missing the train were Ron and Christina, Mel and Mike, and Jet and Cord, putting those three pretty far behind waiting for the next train. Once their train was caught, they had to take a fairy to the aquarium. Again missing the connection were Jet and Cord.

Back to the aquarium, many teams were a bit rush-rush when it came to deciphering the code, leaving before they had finished the puzzle. They all managed to decipher where they were supposed to go for their next clue, but many didn’t stick around long enough to decipher what they had to say ( “I am between the devil and the Deep Blue Sea”) to get their next clue from the captain dude holding the clues at the pier. Zev and Justin helped the Globetrotters with the saying, hoping they will return the favor at a later date. Mel and Mike helped Ron and Christina, Margie and Luke and Jaime and Cara with the saying when they returned to re-decipher the clue. Margie and Luke then helped Kent and Vyxsin with the clue. Jet and Cord were the only team not helped, and had to go back to the aquarium.

Once receiving their clue, the were to help sail a skiff out to a buoy where they would have to reach out and grab their next clue. It seemed to go pretty well for all teams. This clue led to the first pit stop, the last team to check in “May” be eliminated.

Arriving at the pit stop in this order were: Gary and Mallory (who won the express pass), Amanda and Kris, Kisha and Jen, Zev and Justin, Globetrotters, Jaime and Cara, Margie and Luke, Ron and Christina, Mel and Mike, Kent and Vyxsin. Meanwhile, the cowboys go back to give the saying, and still got it incorrect. Back to the aquarium they go.

Caveat: Phil informed all racers arriving at the mat that they are still racing, handing them their next clue. Jet and Cord were still working on deciphering the code words, and we get a “To Be Continued…”

Will Jet and Cord be eliminated at the mat, or will they be told they are still racing? Upcoming previews show Mel not doing well, and Mike crying. Who will be eliminated next?

Bit of inside info: Vyxsin knows sign language! Luke now has someone to sit and chat with at the pit stops without having to have his mother present. Will this lead to an alliance? Seeing Margie and Luke helped them with the saying in this first leg, it appears so. In addition, Mike is trying to learn sign language as well, so it looks like we may see another alliance forming as well.

All in all, it was a terrific premier to a terrific show. Filmed in beautiful HD, the views were spectacular. What did you think about the premier? Are you as unhappy as I am to see Jet and Cord currently in last place? Leave us a comment below!

CBS released the official list of the all-star teams competing on the newest season of the Race, premiering this February. We broke the news last November with a couple spoilers in toe, check it out HERE! Among the teams participating are some fan favorites, as well as ones you just love to hate. So who will be competing in a race around the world for a second chance at the grand prize? None of the teams won their respective season. Some made it to second place and some just dropped out so early we almost forgot who they are.
