Big Brother’s Couch Potato Examines the Houseguests

Note: This feature will be submitted on a weekly basis by one of our Twitter followers! If you’d like to write for the Yak, just let us know and we’ll see what we can do! We’re open and very receptive to participation from all types of Yaks!

So, hello everyone. You’re probably wondering who I am, but I’m not gonna tell…anyone. What I am going to do is give you a unique view of Big Brother 14 (unique for all of you at least). What is that, you ask? It’s the perspective of someone who was formerly like you, a hardcore Big Brother online nerd net fan. I used to watch the feeds all the time, would scour the internet for any and all scoopage and spoilers and of course, read the Yak updates from my phone when I couldn’t get online. But not this year. You see, I’ve decided to sacrifice all of that and give the Yak a perspective it’s not used to…the perspective of a show only watcher. I will not be watching the feeds, I won’t be reading any spoilers. I’ll know house events only when it’s aired on TV and I’ll only know the goings on of the house from what they air.

As we all know, CBS edits the heck out of what it airs. It has to. There’s NO WAY they could air everything you all see on the feeds. In the past, however, that’s left a lot of good stuff out of the aired shows. People who watch JUST the show would have no clue on many things and that’s what I’m going to be this year. I’m giving it all up, and I do this for the Yak.

So, every week, once a week (maybe more if I feel like it) I’ll be sending in my thoughts on each show to one of the prestigious owners of this site. Only they know who I am. I’ve followed the Yak on Twitter for a long time, and one thing I respect the hell out of them for is that they are very limited on what they spoil directly on their Twitter TL. They tweet out that they have them and then give their followers the option to view them on their site. So, I contacted the Yak via DM the other day, asked them if they’d like this perspective and they agreed. So here we go. Keep in mind, when you read this again, that I ONLY know what is aired. I won’t be reading this either on the Yak’s site and unfortunately I won’t be trolling as much as I used to, to purposely avoid spoilers.

First, my thoughts on the newbies:

Frank is the long lost secret child of Richard Simmons and Carrot Top…and a pervert, grabbing the big bed so the last girl w/out a bed has to sleep with him. But, as evidenced by his performance in the first HOH competition, he’s physically fit. I wonder if he’s spastic all the time or if he chills out.

Danielle…cute accent…at first. Then when she talked more I was instantly reminded of Holly from BB5. However, I also liked her attitude in the HOH competition and her approach to Dan when she was facing the instant eviction.

Shane, the house flipper who can’t really say that if you don’t actually sell them. Plus, please get rid of that stupid shell necklace. I don’t know about him, he seems like he’d be someone puffing his chest out as he walked around, cocky as hell.

Jodi – Kalia junior? She wasn’t there long enough to form a true impression but I got the feeling she would have been a constant whiner and drama starter.

Ian – if Michelle from BB11 hadn’t lost her mind she could have found her soul-mate. He is totally adorable. I love his facial expressions and he seems like he could be a VERY smart player. He seems schooled in the game too. Big fan already.

Wil…wow….if I were watching the feeds he’d be interesting to see. He’s also a strong competitor though and since he’s on Janelle’s team, that’s fitting, they seem like they’d get along very well. I imagine him to either be, along with Ian, the house pet of sorts OR VERY annoying.

JoJo immediately bugs the you know what out of me with instant attitude. Dislike, “I always get my bed”. Bite me. I hated her attitude the entire time, she seemed very self-entitled and a total b*tch.

Willie, Russell Hantz’s brother, is interesting. No immunity idol hidden though. But I think he’s got a big hurdle as many instantly suspected him to be a relation to Russell. IF he can surpass that and not make too many waves as the first HOH, he could go far as he seems like a strong competitor as well.

Ah, the stock BB model, former groupie – Kara. That’s about it for her, she honestly didn’t make that much of an impression on me.

Joe the chef – spaz, total spaz. But if he plays it smart and bends to his skills as a chef without bringing a lot of attention to himself, he could go far. I didn’t get much of an impression on him yet either, though.

Jenn – tattoo rock chick – is someone who has to flaunt their uniqueness is dealing with insecurity issues. But I liked her gusto on the HOH competition too. As we all know though, (hi Lydia), her type always gets in the drama and I kinda got that vibe from her. That’s stereotyping though, too.

Spray tan chick, Ashley, headband, hippie dippie says love…seriously, the headband thing is so over. She comes across as annoying as hell. WAY too outgoing, WAY too exuberant. She’d wear me out the first day and I’d be waiting for BB to telling her to shut up. Ashley needs to be cut off from any sort of stimulating substance.

“Most memorable.” “The greats.” That’s how the four returning players were referred to by the Chenbot.

Dan – YES. He WAS a great player, one of the best. I can see this.
He’s going to be a great coach.

Janelle -YEAH! Most competition wins in a season, she’s a total competitor.

Britney – Don’t see how she’s a “great player” but acknowledged that she did get played, and that she didn’t see the big picture. Yes, you do have to prove you can play. But I like her attitude coming into it as well and she was very encouraging to her teammates. I think she has learned from her first time around.

Boogie – It will be interesting to see how he does without Will. Didn’t know he was a dad, that’s cool. But seems to have a grasp on it except saying he’s the best to ever play, which that title belongs to his CT mate, Will. I hope, HOPE, that he and Janelle pair up in some way honestly.

The twist was interesting too. Britney was smart to pick Willie as HOH and I hope he doesn’t let this power go to his head. Dan, I think, made the right choice in eliminating Jodi. The only thing I think she would have been strong at is MAYBE the social aspect. If Willie was smart, he’d nominate the two girls left on Dan’s team and the house has a consensus that even if one comes off the block, the other one is evicted; leaving Dan’s team with just one player on it. You all may already know what the plan is, I won’t know who is nominated until Sunday night. Until next time, enjoy the feeds for me!

The Yak’s Interview with First Big Brother Evictee Jodi Rollins!

The Yak got a chance to chat with Jodi this morning, the first unfortunate evictee from the Big Brother House last night in a twist that had one of the 4 coaches pick who to send home. The consensus, and we let Jodi know this, is that the fans were very disappointed to see her go. We like having actual Big Brother fans in the house! We did give her our condolences for the abduct eviction.

Jodi has such a positive outlook on the whole experience…

Jodi: I was only in there for 8 hours! I knew coming into the house there was a chance I could be home very soon. I love the show, I have to take a chance. I rolled the dice and I lost bigger than any other HG in the shows history… but I tried. You have to always take chances in life.

The Yak: Were you upset about being the first evicted and with the way it happened?

Jodi:  I was devastated, I definitely cried, I wasn’t going to cry on national television, but i was devastated. I don’t regret going though!

The Yak: What did you think of the vet twist?

Jodi: Overall I felt it was unnecessary. Before they got there, it was light and fun, but we knew that would change eventually. But everything was in your hands, you got to play your own chess game. When the coaches entered, it was like remedial Big Brother where you had to wait for someone to tell you what to say and do. If they were there to play it would have been different, but I thought it was unnecessary.

The Yak: Did you know Willie was Russel Hantz’ Brother?

Jodi: In the 8 hours that we were there, that talk never came up. I liked Willie, but I had no idea he was related to Russel.

The Yak: Did you feel threatened by any of the new houseguests, before the coaches showed up?

Jodi: I knew going in that I didn’t want to go up against an Evel Dick or Russell… someone following you areound screaming or banging pots and pans, but once I met everyone there, I didn’t feel terribly threatened by any of them.

The Yak: Was there any new Houseguest that you had trouble connecting with?

Jodi: Joe made no effort to get to no me, no connection at all, I would try to talk to him and he would just… he blew me off.

The Yak: Do you think Dan’s team is in trouble now that he is down a player?

Jodi: Dan’s team is in trouble now based on who he chose. The weaker players though could possible ride on for awhile, not being a threat. The strong people that I liked were on Boogies team and Britney’s team, but that doesn’t mean they will win.

The Yak: How much time before Dan made decision?

Jodi: From the time we lost the competition to the time I was booted was maybe a half hour. As soon as we walked in the house, Dan and I talked for 12 seconds, that’s it… I told him that I really want to stay, I’m a huge fan, the other girls don’t have the wisdom about the game that I do… that was it. I don’t think I got through to him. You can feel whats going on in that house… the minute they announced the losing team would go home, the energy changed. As soon as the coached picked teams, the energy changed. I was trying to think positive but I knew I was going home. The one person that was good to me was Jenn of all people, she hugged me and cheered me on, kissed me on the forehead… no one else did that.

The Yak: Do you think your being booted had anything to do with Sexism, Ageism, Racism etc.

Jodi: For me, I don’t see it as racism. I don’t think Dan is some sort of a racist. You can’t be in that house without pre-judging and what do know about the Big Brother game? Black women don’t win, older people don’t win. (I guess I am an older person now haha) But… I’m the least threatening in the house, all the coaches knew that, so I think he went against what he actually should have done cause I was a nothing. [as far as the game goes.]

The Yak: Did you know there was a twist going in? That more people would show up?

Jodi: Shane and I started counting the beds within a half hour, so we knew there was more people coming. Also, on the memory board the way they had it set up, there was this little crack in it and I peeked in and could see there were more screens, so we figured more were coming. We didn’t know if it would be veterans or what, but we knew there was a twist coming.

The Yak: What would you have done differently with the twist if you could or what would you have hoped it would be?

Jodi: I would have liked to have seen people who left too soon come back. It would have made a more interesting show. People who went out the first few weeks kind of wrongly. People who didn’t get a shot, but didn’t make bad decisions. Not like a Keith or Lawon that got themselves kicked out, but like others who just didn’t get a chance to play the game.

The Yak: Did you even get to unpack?

Jodi: No we didn’t unpack. We came in from the competition, the bags were near the door… We had no idea. I even left barefoot. I was there a total of 8 hours!

The Yak: Does it bother you, as a Superfan, that there are people in the house now that don’t even know anything about the show?

Jodi: Not really because… I think everyone is there to play the game. What would bother me is just those that are in there to try and get famous.

The Yak: Once you saw the coaches, whose team were you hoping to be on?

Jodi: I know it’s funny and ironic now, but I wanted Dan. I thought we made a connection. We talked a lot before we went out there…

The Yak: Who do you think has the strongest chance to go all the way and who do you think may already be dead in the water?

Jodi: I think Shane is part boy next door and part go-getter? I think Joe is really nice and no one will think to get him out. I think Willie and Frank could go all the way… those are the ones that stand out in my mind. Dani, Kara and Ashley I think are dead in the water.

The Yak: After the vets came in, were you excited to see them? Any one that surprised you?

Jodi: I was actually kind of disappointed in Britney. She didn’t make any effort to get to know me, no engaging, I was disappointed. Dan talked to me, Boogie, Janelle… But Britney never really even talked to me at all.

The Yak: If you were to have stayed, who would you have liked to see evicted? Who would you have worked with, or wanted to go to the final two with?

Jodi: I would have evicted Ashley. I wouldn’t make too many enemies by getting rid of her. I would have really liked to work with Willie and Shane. Last 2, maybe someone like JoJo because she is a real polarizing figure and you need that in the final 2.

The Yak: What was your impression of the Big Brother House?

Jodi: I was so excited to actual just be there! I looked in the drawers, I looked in the couch, the decorations… are they glued down, do they work… I touched the pillows… I just touched everything! I was in the Big Brother house and I just needed to touch everything. I thought the house was well decorated and fun! I even named the rooms! I wonder if the room names will stick. I went upstairs and looked down, played with the chess set, looked in the fridge… Until I was booted it was a dream come true.

The Yak: Are you in sequester, and do you think you may get to go back in and play?

Jodi: I wouldn’t know if I get chance to come back in but I can’t say where I am. [laugh]

Thank you Jodi, it was truly a pleasure! We fans were very sad to see you go so soon!

The Best Selling American Idol Single Is ….

On July 4, an American Idol alum made history since the show’s inception 11 seasons ago. Kelly Clarkson, the show’s inaugural winner, now holds the title of the alum with the best selling single. On the Fourth of July, Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” surpassed Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats” as the best selling single from an Idol alum, according to Nielsen Sound Scan. “Stronger” has sold 3,510,000 singles as of today, while “Before He Cheats” has sold 3,509,000 copies since its release in 2006.

“Stronger” is also Clarkson’s longest #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. According to Billboard, “Before He Cheats” peaked at No. 8 on the Hot 100 and was on the chart for 64 weeks. Only five songs in the 54-year history of this survey have had longer runs. On Hot Country Songs, “Before He Cheats” was No. 1 for five weeks in November-December 2006. Before “Stronger” surpassed “Before He Cheats,” it had to first pass “No Air” by Jordin Sparks featuring Chris Brown, which has now sold 3,437,000 copies to date.

Underwood, however, is still ahead in total domestic album sales. Proving Simon Cowell’s prediction back in Season 4, Underwood has sold 13,205,000 albums to date and Clarkson is close behind with 11,664,000. Any Idol fan might remember his bold prediction during Billboard week. Cowell said, “Not only will you win this show, you will sell more records than any other previous Idol winner.”

Billboard points out that if you count digital downloads of singles, Clarkson wins the race with 24,100,000 copies sold, while Underwood’s sales total 22,535,000 digital songs. If this proves anything, it only furthers the notion that these two beautiful and talented ladies are the competition’s most successful and possibly best alums. At least these two give credibility to winning the show and taking on the crown. There is room for both of these women in the industry and we predict that this isn’t the end of their successes!

Clarkson can be seen on ABC’s Duets, which airs Thursday night at 8/7c. She is also touring select cities this summer with The Fray. Underwood just returned to the US after taking her Blown Away hits to the UK and Australia. She’s gearing for her Blown Away tour which kicks off this fall!

Bristol Palin Sued … Again

Bristol Palin, the star of Lifetime’s Bristol Palin: Life’s a Tripp, is being sued again. And it’s not even by a different person. The show’s star and A&E (Lifetime’s parent company) are reportedly under fire in a new lawsuit filed June 28. Stephen Hanks, a talent manager, claims defamation and invasion of privacy and is seeking $75,000 against Palin and Lifetime.

Hanks first filed three weeks ago when Lifetime aired promos featuring him and Palin in a heated argument at a West Hollywood bar. Hanks alleges that the incident was filmed in September 2011 without his permission. He wanted Lifetime to stop airing the footage, citing defamation of character. This new suit comes about because Hanks has learned of “additional defendants.” He claims that because of Palin’s “deliberate, malicious and despicable” actions, he has “suffered harm to his profession and occupation and expended money as a result of the statements.”

The production company of Palin’s show, Associated Television International, is also under fire in a suit filed by Christopher and Kyle Massey, the latter of whom competed on Dancing with the Stars with Bristol. They claim that the producers of her Lifetime show have cut them out of the reality show altogether.

Honestly, I’m not sure why. The reason no one noticed the Masseys weren’t in the show wasn’t because of production cuts but rather because the show is airing to terrible ratings and has since been removed from Lifetime’s prime-time schedule.

Happy 200th, SYTYCD – A Look Back At Some Iconic Routines

How do you begin to even name off the top dance routines from the last 199 episodes of So You Think You Can Dance? Ever since the show kicked off with season 1, there has been routine after routine that has stood out in the eyes of many fans. In looking back at the iconic reality competition series, we thought of counting down our favorite 10 or 20 routines. Then we realized that was impossible. It rarely is a challenge to rank performances from a reality competition series. Usually everyone has their favorite, but we couldn’t pinpoint just one. And that’s not because there isn’t a routine worthy of being named a favorite. Rather, how do you just choose between routines that hit you so personally and to the core? It’s like choosing your one and only favorite child.

If we wanted to, we could rank some of the top routines from each choreographer. No other show has the distinction of so much talent behind the scenes to showcase the talent right on the stage. We could go by choreographer. We could go by genre. We could go by season. We could go by male vs. female. We could go by routines judges have claimed to love in the past. The possibilities are endless. So, instead of wracking our brains to rank and pit some of the best of the best against each other, we’re just going to take you down memory lane and post some of our personal favorites.

Tonight, on the show’s 200th episode, Season 9 names the Top 20 that will no doubt have us glued to our TVs. If you ask me, a milestone like 200 episodes is a perfect outlet to name the 20 contestants that will work hard through blood, sweat, and tears and win the hearts of Americans this summer. So, without further adieu and in no particular order, with every line, leap, swag, buccness, and hot tamales, here are some of our favorite SYTYCD routines. Be sure to let us know your favorites down below in our comments and don’t forget to watch tonight’s Top 20 reveal at 8/7c on Fox!

To kick it all off, enjoy this 200 Moves in 200 Seconds clip garnished by the people at Fox. We recommend not even looking for your favorite, but rather to just enjoy the fluidity of the clip and marvel at the moves. Make sure you click on through to see all of the others!

Judge Denies CBS’s Request for TRO Against ABC’s Glass House

Update: Judge Feess noted during the proceedings that “CBS has not convinced me that they will succeed in their copyright claims…CBS seeks to protect the idea of a show of contestants in a house where cameras are running…you can’t copyright that…. I don’t know if Glass House will have any effect on Big Brother… It will continue to go forward and be successful.” CBS Scott Edelman says ABC took CBS’s #1 summer show and copied it. Citing Wikipedia as a source showing other shows similar to Big Brother, the judged joked back and said he thought Big Brother was “just Survivor in a house.” Edelman argued, “The voyeuristic feel is the embodiment of the expression of Big Brother and found on both shows.” In regards to the deposition of producer Kenny Rosen, “We thought the record that was developed was extremely compelling,” Edelman said. “We clearly have violations of a [non-disclosure agreement] and violations of trade secrets.” The judge responded, “I am not persuaded the adult appetite of viewers for Big Brother (will change).” He went on with some personal comments, “I thought after one or two reality shows we would never see others. Audience fascination with these shows is well understood even if some of us can’t understand it.” Judge Feess also wanted to note that “The closer we get to nonfiction (programming), it’s more difficult to argue copyright infringement.” It seems networks can still attempt to sue for copyright infringment but that they shouldn’t expect a victory.

ABC has incurred a short-term victory. In the ongoing lawsuit that we have been keeping you updated on, early Friday morning, U.S. District Judge Gary Feess temporarily denied CBS’ request for a temporary restraining order against the ABC series. The Glass House, set to premiere Monday June 18 at 10/9c on ABC, will live on – at least for now. The hearing is still in session, as lawyers from both sides are arguing their points in front of the presiding judge.

Read as CBS Outlines how The Glass House is a Copycat

As we have been reporting, CBS claims that ABC and The Glass House contains private, confidential and copyrighted information from the reality summer hit, Big Brother. ABC denies these allegations, stating that the production values of The Glass House are not trade secrets and that Big Brother is actually a “stale” franchise.

This lawsuit has been clogging the internet since May. Fans of the CBS hit have been hinting at wanting live feeds for the behind the scenes battle in the lawsuit. Sadly, there is no such luck. While the Glass House premiere is just days away, Big Brother is set to hit airways July 12 at 9/8c on CBS! We, of course, are chatting up both shows and more in our FORUMS, so join us! Also, be sure to consider buying your Early Bird Superpass Feeds for Big Brother 14 through the Yak! It’d mean a lot!

CBS: “Glass House” Copycat “Conversational Pool/Spa Segment”

Really, CBS? We’re going to get that detailed here? As we near the hearing tomorrow morning in the never-ending CBS v. ABC Big Brother/Glass House battle, CBS didn’t waste any time on Thursday releasing an eleven page document pointing out just how ABC has copied the CBS reality staple. Copyright expert, Jeff Rovin, reviewed Glass House footage from the past few days of live feeds and makes the case that the new ABC reality show is a copycat of CBS’s long running summer hit.

Read The Document (Provided by THR) Here

The claim mentions that everything from camera angles to “conversational pool/spa segments” to hair and set color to drapery and pillow colors is the same as Big Brother. In the document above, Rovin notes that “ABC and its creative team have introduced virtually nothing new in the way of staging, camera work, setting, narrative, wardrobe, or anything else that comprise the expression of Big Brother…Given all the possible expansions ABC could have introduced to the reality television genre, the producers clearly chose to replicate what CBS has spent more than a decade refining and perfecting.”

As we have been covering the live feeds in our YakkityYaks forums since they began two days ago, fans of Big Brother and viewers of The Glass House have been making comments on our site, Twitter and other social media sites. But the action behind the scenes has been much more provocative and entertaining that what we’re seeing on camera. While ABC has moved the cast in, started the game, continues to advertise and is set for a premiere on Monday night (at 10/9c), the ruling tomorrow might have other plans. As we previously reported, the judge is rule on whether or not a TRO will be in effect at CBS’s request.

In the document, Rovin has gone so far in comparing images of a blond woman from The Glass House and specifically Big Brother 10. “From the costuming to the hair color to the set color to the lighting, the look and feel of this clip from Big Brother ten is clearly indistinguishable from Glass House,” he noted about images taken from both shows.

Come tomorrow, we will have more concrete information regarding the fate of ABC’s The Glass House. Until then, we want to hear your thoughts on this whole case? What do you think of the moves CBS and ABC have taken in regards to this lawsuit? Are you tired of hearing about this case? Did you check out The Glass House feeds this week? Sound off below and in our FORUMS!
