The internet is abuzz with news regarding Beyonce’s latest film attempt, a remake of Streisand’s A Star Is Born. Reports name none other than Clint Eastwood as the man who has signed on to direct the project. Eastwood’s announcement more than solidifies moving forward with the project. The big question now is who will snag the male lead? Last year, when Beyonce was added in to the mix, rumors began to swirl as to who her potential co-star would be. Names like Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr., and Russel Crowe made the short list. A current shortlist, however, includes the likes of Will Smith, Eddie Murphy, and Jon Hamm. Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson brought the classic to life back in 1976, earing Streisand a Golden Globe for her performance.
Beyonce has long since been open regarding her plans to snag an Oscar some day to add to her trophy case. She’s even gone so far as to hang an Oscar trophy above her treadmill, assisting her motivation to stay in shape. Fresh off her critically acclaimed Dreamgirls performance, Beyonce was seemingly overshadowed with the breakout role of Jennifer Hudson, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Now Beyonce has another chance under the direction of a renowned director who has snagged awards for Million Dollar Baby and Unforgiven and nominations for Letters From Iwo Jima and Mystic River. What do you think of the news? Can Beyonce make this role her own and put her in the running for one of the industry’s most coveted awards? Who would you like to see playing opposite the pop starlet?
