Okay, let’s see what we have tonight…..Bruno essentially asked Kendra to mount him on the judges table, the producers hate us…Carrie Ann was pretty much drunk and the producers hate us. Why do they hate us you ask? Well, Hanson was on. They started the show by singing MmmmBop. Then they came back and performed the opening notes of “Hello” by Lionel Richie. After that, it was “Achy Breaky Heart”. Just wait, it gets better. “Ice Ice Baby” too…I don’t know what the producers are trying to do this season but it’s seriously strange and considering how well the show’s done in ratings, they really don’t need to.
On to the dancing. Tonight was Guilty Pleasures night and the stars danced to songs you only sing in the shower or your car. Yeah, the producers are desperate too because while it was a fun night to watch they seriously need to STOP THE THEMES!!! My god, is it THAT hard to just say, “This week we’re just going to let you dance the dance you’re assigned and pick your song and that’s it.”?!?
First up this week were Kirstie and Maks. Blows the theory that they always get to dance at the end out of the water but that’s okay because while I’m a biased fan, I think this was the first week since Week One that they seriously danced to their potential. They danced the Samba to Britney Spear’s Baby One More Time. The judges felt so too, noting this in their critique and giving them their highest score of the season, a 26!
Chris and Cheryl danced the Tango to “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey, which as our own Kristin noted, isn’t exactly a guilty pleasure song. I don’t know about y’all, but I wouldn’t be ashamed to be caught singing this song ANYWHERE. Whatev, it got slaughtered by the live singers anyways…next thing you know they’ll be using it in a Swiffer commercial and killing it off altogether. Personally, I didn’t think that dance was bad at all but apparently the judges did. They said it seemed like he was just off tonight, and gave him a total score of 22. I thought they were underscored myself, but the fun continues with the weird scoring.
Oh wait, insert big groan from me, tomorrow night in addition to guest performers Backstreet Boys and NKOTB, plus Pia “My Boyfriend’s Dancing and You’re Gonna Be In Trouble” Toscano…we get Jennifer Grey and Kyle Massey amongst others but the best of all…..Ms. Bristol No Personality Palin, yay! Yippy Skippy! Could it be because she’s the worst finalist ever, or because Momma Palin has slipped in the presidential polls and needs more hype?
Alright, back to the dancing. Romeo and Chelsie did a really really really sweet Waltz to My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion. If I ever hear Carrie Ann Inaba gripe about someone doing a lift when the dance doesn’t call for it or they’re not supposed to I will reference the start of this dance and the end of Hines dance last week. Neither got marked down. Anyway, it was a terrific dance and Romeo seems to has lost his phobia of not looking cool. Did I say how good they did? Yeah, they got a 28 AND go the first 20 of the season.
Chelsea and Mark danced the Quickstep to Walking On Sunshine. Mark injured his ankle during dress rehearsal earlier, and they made sure to show us because OUCH that HAD to hurt! I thought it was a cute dance, I have always loved Mark’s choreography and clever storytelling through the dance BUT I think this dance was overscored. It wasn’t Chelsea’s greatest dance for me, but Carrie Ann was over the moon about it (yeah, she was drunk) and gave them a 10. They ended up with a total of 28, tied Romeo and Chelsie (can’t let the judges boy Ballas be outscored! Sorry, had to get that in there).
Kendra and Louis danced the Samba to La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin and personally I thought this was her best dance yet. Her attitude still stinks and her breasts were two millimeters from flying across the dance floor and hitting Florence Henderson in the face BUT this was totally the dance for her. I thought it was fun, lively, everything the Samba was supposed to be. The judges liked it too, but they underscored her imo, giving her a total of 25. I am NOT a Kendra fan, but to say this was an “8″ dance and Mark/Chelsea’s dance was a “10″ dance was just weird for me. Weirder yet, Bruno basically asking Kendra to mount him on the judges table. I’m not lying.
Hines and Kym danced next, they did the Viennese Waltz to End of the Road by Boyz II Men. It was adorable, I thought. Exactly what the Viennese Waltz should be, even with what Len noted as Hines being flat footed. Hines got actual critiques tonight, I don’t remember the last time he got one from the judges, but they still liked it enough to match his score from last week….27! Should be noted that Len told Hines he was the MVP of the season.
Finally, Ralph and Karina danced the Paso Doble to Everybody Dance Now. Weird song for a Paso, but the intro video got me revved up when they incorporated some of the Karate Kid moves into the dance. However, the Kirstie/Maks mishap curse was passed on to them this week when Karina tripped over Ralph’s coat and fell to the floor. Their reaction was much like Kirstie/Maks though, Ralph helped her right back up and they continued with the dance. I think they did a really good job with the dance and deserved the praise and all 8′s the judges gave them for a total of 24.
So, join us in our forums by clicking…ready for it…”forum” at the top of the page. Here’s the leaderboard for the night:
Romeo/Chelsie – 28
Mark/Chelsea – 28
Hines/Kym – 27
Kirstie/Maks – 26
Kendra/Louis – 25
Ralph/Karina – 24
Chris/Cheryl – 22
I think the bottom group will be Chris/Cheryl, Kendra/Louis and Ralph/Karina. I’d like to think Kendra goes, even with her awesome dance her attitude still sucks and she’s revealed more about herself than anyone EVER EVER EVER should. But sadly, Chris could be the one to get the axe and that would suck because the man can dance.
