Deadliest Catch Boat, ‘Cornelia Marie’, Searched For Drugs….

Jake Harris, the son of the late Phil Harris, both of Deadliest Catch fame, is at the center of alleged drug use once again. Alaskan police were contacted by the Cornelia Marie’s current captain, Derrick Ray, on November 5th with allegations that the young Harris had been abusing drugs at sea. A search of the boat produced some drug paraphernelia, but not enough to connect Jake to a crime.

Phil Harris, the beloved captain of the Cornelia Marie for decades, was a fan favorite on the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. He suffered a massive stroke during an offload last Opie season, on January 29th and passed away from complications of that stroke (a pulmonary embolism) on February 9th. Immediatly before his stroke he discovered his youngest son Jake had been stealing his pain medication and upon this discovery Jake admitted to being an addict. Three days after his father’s death he was charged with DUI, and later sought treatment for his addictions. It had been reported that he’d been in recovery, and although there are these current allegations, Jake Harris obviously hasn’t commented as to whether or not he has suffered a relapse.

Jake and his brother are going to drive the Corniela Marie out of business. They may be okay deckhands, but they lack their father’s work ethic and sense of responsibility. I have no doubt that Jake was smoking dope in the engine room.
