Last fall, NBC gave us the first fall installment of TV’s biggest reality competition today, “The Voice.” Since then, the Peacock network hasn’t been struggling quite as much as it has in recent years. Yet, the struggle continues. With iconic shows like “30 Rock” & “The Office” coming to an end this year, NBC had quite the challenge on their hands to not only continue with the success of “The Voice,” but to build on that success and offer promising new series that will draw eyeballs this fall. Banking on silent hits like “Parenthood” and the underdog success of “Chicago Fire,” NBC hopes that this fall critics will be praising their success instead of mocking their failure. Returning to “The Voice” after taking a season off will be CeeLo Green and Christina Aguilera, joining Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Bringing Michael J Fox to primetime is a start, as NBC tries to rebuild “Must See TV Thursdays.” Meanwhile, NBC currently has the most buzz surrounding the upcoming new dramas across the four major networks with “The Blacklist.” Check out NBC’s new offerings below and let us know what you think! We’ll be tackling Fox, CBS and ABC in the upcoming days, as well.
Remember, you can check our our Fall Day-By-Day Grid to see what’s up against what each day this season.
The Blacklist, premiering Monday Sept 23 at 10|9c
For decades, ex-government agent Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader, “The Office,” “Boston Legal”) has been one of the FBI’s most wanted fugitives. Brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe, Red was known by many as “The Concierge of Crime.” Now, he’s mysteriously surrendered to the FBI with an explosive offer: He will help catch a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani, under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone, “Law & Order: Los Angeles”), an FBI profiler fresh out of Quantico. For Liz, it’s going to be one hell of a first day on the job.
What follows is a twisting series of events as the race to stop a terrorist begins. What are Red’s true intentions? Why has he chosen Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection? Does Liz have secrets of her own? Zamani is only the first of many on a list that Red has compiled over the years: a “blacklist” of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all… with the caveat that Liz continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal to “see the bigger picture” – whether she wants to or not.
