Fall TV 2010, CBS: Hawaii, $#*! from Dad, and Survival of the Fittest

Yesterday we took on Fox’s fall lineup, promising it may seem. Today, let’s tackle CBS. With 5 new shows slated to hit the mini-screen (click here for the fall schedule),will CBS still be able to live up to it’s claim as America’s most watched network? Not only is CBS reviving one of the biggest hit shows of the past, it’s bringing an online sensation to the tube! Put that with the return of favorites like the CSI franchise, last season’s breakout The Good Wife, The Big Bang Theory and some of reality’s finest, CBS just might be on to something. New Shows:

Mike and Molly, Mondays @ 9:30EST: Weight loss has brought along a whole new meaning. CBS brings you one of 2 new sitcoms on their plate this season to join the likes of Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and more in hopes of fattening up their comedy lineup. Mike and Molly looks to be a refreshing new look at the fad of losing weight and the obstacles that come along with it. Mike, a police officer, goes to visit Molly’s classroom to speak to them about law enforcement…and there it all begins – like a match made in heaven. Premieres 9/20, This Yakkster’s prediction: HIT

Hawaii 5-0, Mondays @ 10EST: The classic drama is reinvented this fall on CBS. Taking fans back to Hawaii (after LOST’s demise) with stars like Alex O’Laughlin (a network favorite) and Daniel Dae Kim (Lost alum), CBS proves that you can bring back an old beloved drama, bigger and better than before. The flashy new special effects might not make it seem like the “oldie” we’ve grown to love, but this fast paced drama just might fill a void in some fans’ hearts (cheesy, I know). Premieres 9/20, This Yakkster’s prediction: HIT

The Defenders, Wednesdays @ 10EST: After According to Jim’s (late) cancellation, Jim Belushi returns to the screen with Jerry O’Connell on CBS’s new legal drama as Vegas’s new public defenders. As CBS tries to fill the void after losing Without a Trace & Cold Case throughout the past 2 seasons and by moving CSI:NY to Fridays, The Defenders looks like it might be that show the network wants you to like, but you just can’t…Premieres 9/22, This Yakkster’s prediction: MISS

$#*! My Dad Says, Thursdays @ 8EST: On the heels of the internet Twitter phenom, CBS brings you the internet to your TV screen. Headlined by William Shatner, the show is based on the relationship between a fairly level-headed son and his unpredictable father who just has no filter on anything he says. The show looks to have some quotable one-liners, but this TV fan wonders how many storylines can they present. Pairing the show with the Big Bang Theory just might keep it around for a little bit, but I for one won’t be holding my breath. Premieres 9/23, This Yakkster’s prediction: MISS

Blue Bloods, Fridays @ 10EST: Tom Selleck returns to primetime on what is being touted at The Sopranos for network TV, albeit extremely  toned down. Ironic that this comes to you from the minds who brought you The Sopranos in the first place. Why CBS has placed this on a Friday death spot, I’m not sure; but an Irish family of law enforcement officers just might put up a fight to make sure they stick around longer than may be expected. Bridging the gap between legal and family drama, Blue Bloods might be a cultish hit and nothing more thanks to its time-slot. Premieres 9/24, This Yakkster’s prediction: could go EITHER WAY

Reality Corner:

On top of all the drama and laughs, CBS will keep reality fans on the edge of their seats with their staple hits in Survivor: Nicaragua (taking in a Young vs. Old twist this fall), the show that keeps bringing on suspense and adventure, The Amazing Race, and hit from last last season, Undercover Boss. Giving fans a little bit of everything just might be the key to success this fall on CBS. Survivor premieres 9/15 @ 8EST, Race kicks off 9/26 @ 8EST, and the bosses go undercover starting 9/26 @ 10EST.
