Yesterday we took on CBS’s fall lineup (and Fox right here) and the promise (or lack thereof) it brings to this fall’s tv season. Today, let’s take on NBC. With 7 new shows slated to hit the mini-screen (click here for the fall schedule) and one old favorite going retro, does NBC have what it takes to dig themselves out of the ratings hole they’ve been in recently? Bringing back some favorites like the Law & Order franchise (adding one more too), fan favorites Chuck and Parenthood, reality like The Biggest Loser and sitcoms like The Office and 30 Rock, NBC could (note the emphasis) put themselves back in the running. New Shows:
The Event, Mondays @ 9pmEST: An attack. A disappearance. An assassination plot. A CIA cover-up. None of these are the Event. What exactly could it be? I sure as heck have no clue, but this show seems very promising. Touted to be the next ‘LOST,’ with expectations to live up to, the producers promise this is not another LOST – it will be more. Not much else can be said about the show, other than it looks to be suspenseful and full of drama. Compared to another show or not, this could very well be the hit NBC has been looking for. Premieres 9/20, this Yakkster’s prediction: HIT
Chase, Mondays @ 10pmEST: Time for another girl power legalistic drama…with a twist. This time in Texas, even. For US Marshall Annie Frost, she knows the way to catch a criminal is to figure out where he’s going, not where he’s been. She does look like to be quite the kick-ass enforcer if I’ve ever seen one…case after case, she’s bound to do whatever she needs to in order to get the bad guys caught and off the streets. The question is … how long with NBC and the public let her? Premieres 9/20, this Yakkster’s prediction: could go EITHER WAY.
Undercovers, Wednesdays @ 8pm EST: From Alias and LOST producer J.J. Abrams, comes the next spy couple drama. While it may not be a Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn combo, it’s sure to attract a crowd! Can you go wrong with Abrams? Just when the former spies get used to normal life, they get dragged back into the spy business…without the other knowing. Well, at least not at first. When you know you want back in, you just know. Does this world renowned couple have what it takes to balance their love life and the high end spiced spy world? Will people compare this too much with Alias that it actually hurts the show than helps it? Premieres 9/22, this Yakkster’s prediction: leaning a bit more towards HIT
Law & Order: Los Angeles, Wednesdays @ 10pm EST: What is there to say? It’s a spin-off of one of the longest running shows on NBC. Pair that was SVU and voila. Premieres 9/29, this Yakkster’s prediction: will STICK AROUND
Outsourced, Thursdays @ 930EST: With the bleak economy of America today, what better show to put out on your new schedule than of a company outsourcing it’s jobs to a different country. India, to be stereotypical. And that’s exactly what NBC does here. This looks Office-esque but in India. And funnier. (This guy isn’t an Office fan, so anything could be funnier.) How many plots can you have of teaching foreigners how to be “American?” NBC thinks a lot, considering its the only sitcom NBC is adding this fall to their already heavy (and acclaimed) lineup. Promises to be funny, so give it a shot. Premieres 9/23, this Yakkster’s prediction: leaning a bit more towards HIT
The Apprentice, Thursdays @ 10pm EST: Trump is back and going retro, if you will. No more celebrities, just everyday folk. The same old cut-throat, I want to be Trump’s employee type of competition, just with people like you and me. Who better to help get America back on track than the Donald, right? Premieres 9/16 (2 hour premiere @ 9EST)
School Pride, Fridays @ 8pm EST: Extreme Makeover School Edition is pretty much what this show is. Taking schools in low economy areas and building them back up to what the children need for a better, safer, cleaner learning environment. Bound to grab hearts around America. If it doesn’t tug at your heart, well… Premieres 10/15, this Yakkster’s prediction: will STICK AROUND
Outlaw, Fridays @10pm EST: What happens when a Judge resigns from the Supreme Court and goes the other way? Well, this. As he moves to a new law firm and works on the other side of the bench, this ex-Justice works to bring justice to the law from a different angle, for him to go where the action lies. He picks his own team, makes his own rules, all in the name of justice. However for this law enforcer, it’s time slot might be a death sentence before life even begins. Special premiere preview 9/15 @ 10EST, this Yakkster’s prediction: could go EITHER WAY
