Fox Renews “Mindy Project,” “The Following,” Plus Two Veteran Sitcoms

Fox-logoMonday afternoon, Fox announced plans for renewal of four of it’s shows for the 2013-2014 season. Newbies “The Following,” headed by Kevin Bacon, and “The Mindy Project,” headed by Mindy Kaling, will be returning this fall for a second season. The serial killer drama has had a pretty consistent and solid “following” (see how clever I was there?) since it’s premiere in January. “The Following” will get a 15 episode count for it’s second season, just like it’s first season order. In a statement, Fox President Kevin Reilly noted

“From the very beginning, we felt Kevin Williamson and Marcos Siega had created a high-quality, edge-of-your-seat drama that could break from the pack, and it is exciting to see the audience responding. Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have given us two of the most compelling characters on television and the entire cast is incredible. I’m delighted to have this thrill ride continue for another season.”

Joining “The Mindy Project” are fellow Tuesday night sitcoms “New Girl” and “Raising Hope,” who will be coming back for their third and fourth seasons, respectively. These shows join “Bones” in the renewal index. With “Ben and Kate” axed and “X Factor” set to return Fox’s Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are pretty much set for the network.
