Go-Sees and Statues (ANTM)

Here is your weekly ANTM Cycle 17 Recap! We are officially down to 4 girls!

The girls came home after panel to find Kayla’s photo on the screen with the words ‘power’, ‘divine’, and ‘the star of the photograph.’ Chris felt how discomforting it was to be in the bottom two, she decided it was time to start mentally preparing herself to go home-not that she wants to but she wants to be ready. Kayla has noticed that Chris isn’t as into the competition as the other girls, “she doesn’t really want this, she’s not high fashion.” Jane shared that this was a complete break from her dream of playing lacrosse at Princeton, but that she wouldn’t give it up for anything.

Tyra mail: it’s time for go-sees! Chelsey was so excited because she’s been on go-sees before, it filled her with confidence; especially because she knew she needs to win a challenge. Ann was nervous because she knows she’s kinda nerdy and extremely shy in social situations, she hopes to do well. Everyone started rearranging their portfolios in anticipation, how were they suppose to know they were going to meet up with Tyra the next day? They went to the Italian IMG headquarters to see Tyra so she could help them with their portfolios and give them some tips for their go-sees. She showed them exactly what an agent would do, take all the pictures and spread them out on the table; show you your best and choose which ones would go in your portfolio. Tyra told the girls a tip she learned from her grandmother, that it looks best when the model is looking into the gatefold, when the pictures are looking into the center of the book. Tyra told the girls a story from when she was going to go-sees, the agent would put her not-so awesome pictures in the back and she would try and take into her own hands and put her favorites back-thats why she wasn’t getting booked. She told the girls your agent really knows best, don’t take it into your own hands. Tyra wrapped it up by telling them, to smile and be sweet even if you’re not getting positive feedback, always have a happy energy. They quickly met with two experts, Giovanni and Andre, who told them they had four appointments: two photographers, a casting appointment, and Versace. They have four hours because they absolutely have to be back at IMG by 6:30 or they’re disqualified and for even more fun-they can only use public transportation.

Right away, Jane and Chris team up and starting looking for Versace; Chelsey and Kayla decide to stick together and Ann follows them. Jane quickly finds an english-speaking italian and asks directions, they get to Versace first. Chris asked the guy what he looked for in a model and he told her attitude, body, and a nice walk; Arguello plays no games at all, he’s here to do business. Jane was so overwhelmed but wasn’t freaking out at all, she did her best to impress. Jane knows this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and Arguello thinks she needs to work on her walk some more. He saw Chris as an 80′s model, and didn’t like the way her feet worked during her walk. Chelsey, Kayla and a trailing Ann haven’t found their way to Versace yet, and Chelsey is freaking. She’s lost, therefore frustrated, can’t find the street at all and so completely flustered. When Chelsey, Kayla, and Ann finally got to Versace they had to wait for Chris and Jane to be done, Chelsey was very nervous. Arguello thought she wasn’t so special, liked her feet, but placed her about two seasons ago. He thought Kayla was beautiful, and very editorial, but he wouldn’t use her for shows. As soon as Chelsey was done she took off on her own, and the first thing she realized is that Milan is big. She tried taking the subway and it was awhile before she found someone who would help her. Arguello thought Ann’s body was perfect, but she needed work on her walk, all in all he would hire her. Kayla tried the subway as well, but instead of asking anybody she just hopped aboard and then realized she had no idea where she was going. She decided to hop off and thats when she realized that it took her in a big loop and right back to Versace. Jane and Chris decided to go back to IMG just in case they took forever trying to get back, they both felt a little embarrassed not going to three of four go-sees. Ann was lost beyond all belief and after awhile, stopped asking directions because it became too frustrating. Chelsey made it to Global Video for the casting appointment, and the guy thought she had amazing shape, a beautiful face, and that he would definitely hire her. While trying to get back to IMG Chris stepped on her foot wrong and popped it, she limped back upset. Chris and Jane made it back on time with a least a half hour til the designated time, Chelsey made it back with four minutes to spare. Kayla and Ann got lost, Kayla made it back before Ann, but both were disqualified for being late. After everyone was back, they went to see who would win the competition, with Tyra, Geovanni, and Andre. Tyra started by telling the girls what their appointments thought of them. Chris was the only one to ask a question and that is very important, interaction is very important. Jane was a bit shy, Ann was good, Chelsey was beautiful, and Kayla was a favorite but needs to work on her walk. Chelsey was declared the winner, and there would be a gift for her back at the house, which turned out to be a real Versace jacket. The girls were grateful to be home again after such a long day. Good thing they got lots of sleep because the next day they knew they were having a photo-shoot.

Tyra mail: Soon I’m going to make you look marbleous- “are we going to be statues?” The next morning, the girls were meeting Jay and Nigel at a private, luxurious, waterfront villa. Of course, Nigel is going to be their photographer and the first thing Jay points out is that this lovely estate is glittered with statues. In this photo-shoot the girls will be statues made by a beautiful male that come to life from the power of his love for them. Simone will be their fabulous male model/sculptor, and immediately we shift to Kayla who plainly explains she’s use to this by now, and she’s just going to go with the flow. Ann perks up a bit because this is artistic and she’s very into art so she hopes she does well. Jane is up first, she’s stiff as always and Jay can see that she’s not in a relationship. He tries to increase the passion in the picture by asking her to focus on lacrosse, it doesn’t help much and after she’s confronted again she breaks down which is the first honest, real emotion Jay has seen out of her. She’s trying really hard, and she hates that it doesn’t come out in her pictures. Jay tells her not to try and be perfect and she feels as though she’s going through an identity crisis which is quite frustrating. Chelsey is up next and she knows that last week she didn’t stand out but wants to show them that she wants this more and deserves this more than any of the other girls. Nigel tells her when Simone touches her, she is to react and that will be her movement in the shoot. Nigel loved her, thought she was gorgeous and sexy and right away she jumped into character; overall he thought she was really good. Ann was after Chelsey looking very pretty, Jay could tell that she loved this because of her artistic side and it made her more knowledgeable about the shoot. He loved that she brought passion into the shoot. Kayla was next and wants so much to be ANTM, she knows that she will be modeling with men over and over again unfortunately but if thats what it takes she’ll do it all day, all night. Nigel thought she had beautiful shape, and was so impressed that she wasn’t awkward at all with the male model. She had wonderful poses and was modeling from head to toe. Jay was a little worried at first but he could see that she found herself and he thought she was so ‘happening’ he wanted to hug her. Chris was last and everyone was worried about her foot because it was still giving her trouble, but she said it was fine and she wasn’t going to let it get in the way. She was doing great right off the top, she was hitting very lovely, feminine angles, but as the shoot continued the pain began to show in her face and in her body language. Nigel tried to encourage back into the shoot, show as if it was the first pain you’ve ever felt, but it was as if she had signed out and was over it which disappointed him. The next day the girls would be meeting with panel.

Back at the house the girls were antsy, Chelsey thought Chris was a good competitor but that she doesn’t want it like Chelsey wants it. Kayla was thinking that Jane would probably be in the bottom two because of her train wreck performance. Chris was worried, she knew Jay saw passion in the beginning of her shoot but her foot started getting to her, especially because she was standing on uneven rocks. Jane knew she had struggled to show more of herself, but she was trying so hard, she didn’t want to go home. Ann summed it up, she said that no one could rely on someone doing bad anymore, they were only good as how they each had done. The guest judge this week was Kyle Hagler, a major manager for IMG models, and the first up was Kayla. She made one go-see and didn’t book it, Tyra told her it was important to get to all of them. As far as her statue photo, she had the best poses out of the bunch. She did very well, was described as stunning, and had great body language. Chelsey was up next, she got to two go-sees and booked the casting appointment, the reason she didn’t make it to the others was because she got lost. The judges loved her photo, she looked surprised, one was moving, and it was as though she found her light. She was a favorite but it was pointed out that it didn’t look as though she was modeling, she just looked like a beautiful woman. Chris next, she went to one go-see but didn’t book it. At the photo shoot, she did a good job and was beautiful, but after a while she was over it, she signed out-the later photos looked forced and sleepy. Ann now up, she went to one go-see and booked it but she was disqualified. In the photo, the judges felt she didn’t emote, and she was too quiet, there was no emotion, she needs to bring personality. She was giving high fashion, was beautiful, personality is important and she needs to show more of hers. Jane was last, she went to one go-see and she didn’t book it. She had a weak face in her photos, there was no emotion, she was beautiful but she was stiff. The judges want her to be comfortable enough to show her personality all the time. The judges took time to explain to the girls that this competition is made to help transfer your careers to the real world, if you’re not seen you don’t get booked. Its so important to make it to all the go-sees, its like not showing up to work.

Judges Deliberation: They talked about Kayla first, Nigel spoke up and explained to the judges that she came to the set and she wasn’t into the guy but she was like ‘here let me pose’ and it was sexy and it worked. Kyle enjoyed her international look. Ann needs to connect, she’s high fashion but Kyle definitely doesn’t see her as commercial. Chelsey was very good, she was going for it, she offered lots of possibilities as if she could do anything. Kyle likes her light blond hair paired with her bone structure, and she could definitely have a repeat, booking career. Chris could be a good commercial model, but she’s not high fashion. She has a great bubbly energy. Kyle thought Jane needs a development process, and Tyra asks him how long it would take-because the competition has a couple weeks left, he thinks it would need to be a little bit longer. He thinks if she could come out of her shell, she could have a great career. When the girls come back, Kayla is awarded the best photo-Tyra tells her after taking a close look the judges could see her capturing light and she looked stunning. Chelsey was runner-up, she had focus and knowledge, and true passion. Ann was called next, she had a great photo but she needs to work on her personality; in order to be booked again, you need to be memorable. Bottom two were Chris and Jane. Chris started off as a great personality, took good photos, as the competition went on she seems to be getting less and less interested. Jane had stronger photos but has an issue of personality that is affecting photos. In the end however, it was Jane that stays and Chris is eliminated. Tyra told Jane that they saw some passion today, a human being-a crack of the a person we have been wanting to see but a crack is not going to take her all the way in the competition. Tyra tells Chris that she’s more commercial, and that she should have a comedy show, and get into some acting classes because she has a gift. Chris says she will continue modeling, acting, singing-she’ll do it all because she’s going to keep going in any direction she can.
