Eleven girls started this week out to become America’s Next Top Model, and by the end of the night, we were left with ten. Who went home? Who freaked out? Who fought? Catch up with everything right here, at YakkityYaks.
The girls were relaxing at their house, trying to be calm but the atmosphere was thick, everyone knew they had to be on top of their game. Lexie knew it was due or die, and I would guess that all the girls would agree. Rhianna admitted to being afraid and that annoyed Liz, she thought Rhianna had it so good when she had a daughter and so much more to worry about. Kacey was described by the girls as being reserved (Chelsey specifically said ‘confusing’) but out of no where she busted in, breaks the mellow mood, and wants to invite the male models from the fallen angels shoot over for a barbeque. Liz thought she was extremely flirty, Lexie thought she was so untrustworthy, and when the boys got there no one but Kacey was happy about it. Kayla: “It felt like the middle school dance all over again.” Someone said it was like they were at a mixer and the host had gone upsides and everything downstairs was awkward. Kacey was eyeing heavily on Shaw, and Kendel thought she was ‘flirting too damn hard.’
Tyra mail! –“Tomorrow your world will turn upside down.” Well, we all know what that meant, posing while on a roller coaster. The girls went to Knott’s Berry Farm for their first challenge of the season. They were told they were riding the Silver Bullet; the goal was to maintain composure while expressing an emotion when the camera came up. Chris immediately began to freak: “what? I’m scared one of those is going to fly off. The emotion I felt was like a murder coming after me.” Nigel tried to encourage the girls to channel good vibes but some just couldn’t manage. The girls made fun of Rhianna’s earth/wind channeled vibe, but tried to help encourage Chris to go ahead with the challenge. “I took my fear, I conquered it, and I got on that roller coaster. I could feel my heart in my stomach, I’m crying, but I was proud of myself.” Rihanna told Nigel and Miss Jay that she loved the wind and the experience, but Nigel flat out told her “whether you liked it or hated it, its irrelevant. All I care about is did we get the picture.” Liz hit her emotion and won the challenge, she was able to pick two friends and she chose Chris and Kayla. The three of them went to do a photo-shoot for Tyra’s website, photographed by Tyra herself. Both Liz and Kayla wanted to show Tyra that they were serious about modeling but none of three girls needed much direction. Afterwards they all had tea, where Tyra ate all the little carrot cakes. She also told Liz that the reason she got that hair is because she is edgy and commercially but she needs to downplay her sexuality.
Back at the house, big drama went down-Lexie called out Kacey and told her that no one talks to her because no one in the house likes her. Kacey tried to go around to the girls to ask one-by-one what they thought and the first person she asked was Chelsey who said yes, she thought Kacey was a fake bitch. Liz admitted later that she was glad that Lexie said something, “its like here’s everyone on one side of the room and Kacey on other.” Kacey flat out said that they all suck.
Tyra mail! –“True beauty lies beneath the surface.” We know that this could only mean it was time to go underwater, the girls also understood that it meant water. There was twist though; they girls would be shot with sea creatures and jewelry under a pool of suspended water. Jay said it was a highly stylized beauty shot, with millions in jewels. The photographer who is a legend in the fashion industry was Matthew Rolston who also was this week’s guest judge; he wanted the girls to be his undersea goddesses. Another twist was that he evaluated every one of them before he began photographing, which thankfully didn’t seem to affect any of the girls too much. Chris was ready to jump in, offering to cover her huge forehead with an octopus. Before anyone started taking photos, Jay went to Kendel and told her she needed to connect to an emotion, she wanted to portray sexuality, and Jay told her to ‘hear the club music in her head’. When Kendel went up she was weirded out by the sea creatures, Jay said she looked sad, and Matthew didn’t like an angry twinge in her mouth. Jay said Kayla was regal, elegant, and a true Ariel; Matthew saw movie star quality in Esther; and Jay said Chris so beautiful and surprisingly together. Lexie had a hard time because the water made her a little sick; Matthew thought Kacey was very good at performing; and Jay told Ann that she was totally hot. Rhianna knew she had to stand out but Jay believed she had the same expression; Liz said she couldn’t focus because her makeup was messing with her contacts, Jay was tired of her complaints and as far as he was concerned “she could have taken that roller coaster all the way home.” When the girls got home and got the message that only ten of the girls would continue, they got nervous and started singling each other out. Kayla said she thought that Rihanna was one category, “you gotta be a chameleon”; Chelsey believed that Liz might go home because she complains. Liz commented on her contact trouble, “it seems like when you’re trying your hardest, some random obstacle pops up.”
At panel, Tyra said a shoot like this could be hard because a model can’t move, and when you can’t move you might become dead. Up front, Matthew said that in Kacey’s photo her inner light came through and in deliberation the judges liked and some loved it. Although Kacey wore the most awful golden strappy shoes, so Tyra let her wear her shoes so no one was distracted. Before panel Tyra told Kayla that she had a lot in her bag and that she wanted to see what she could pull out, and in deliberation there was agreement that she was gorgeous and Matthew loved her hair. In front of panel, the judges said that Esther brought a degree of Hollywood and in deliberation they agreed she had Hollywood beauty. In front of panel the judges said Ann was superb, Matthew liked her big eyes and odd face proportions and in deliberation they called her memorable and said she had star quality. Chris was Matthew’s favorite shoot of the day and she was officially admitted into Tyra’s big forehead crew; in deliberation they called her fantastic. The judges told Jane that she was stunning but Tyra would have liked her to extend her neck; in deliberation they said she looked a little generic and that she would sell to one type of woman. They said Lexie looked elegant but Nigel wanted a full beauty shot and not another profile; in deliberation they said she was fantastic but was she a survivor? The judges thought Rihanna looks too sweet and too relaxed, and Matthew thought it wasn’t working; in deliberation they thought she struggled and they questioned her ability to be versatile. They thought that this was Kendel’s best shoot so far; she was called the ultimate mermaid and in deliberation Matt said he loved her chocolate coloration and Tyra thanked him because that is what she wants people to see more of. Chelsey was told that the make-up was wearing her instead of the opposite, and in deliberation Nigel pressed that red lips don’t work for her. Liz’s photo was said to be flat, a disappointment and Tyra told her straight that she doesn’t have to see the camera, the camera just needs to see her; in deliberation they agreed that she was not owning her identity and that she was complaining a lot. Ann got the best photo for the third week in a row, and this time her runner-up was Kacey. The bottom two were Liz and Rihanna; Rihanna because they judge didn’t believe she could be anything but a flower child, and Liz because she was making too many excuses. In end the ten girls remained, and Rihanna went home. Tyra told her to go practice being a chameleon because she hadn’t mastered that yet.
Next week there is a moving runway, and another catfight. Will you being watching? Do you agreed with this week’s elimination? Agree with the best and runner-up photos of the week? What about all that drama? Tell us what you think in the forums.
