First up, we had Lea Michele from Glee singing “America the Beautiful.” I guess she did alright, and anyone who is a big Glee fan may have enjoyed it. I can tell you that most if not all at my Super Bowl party kinda just ignored it and kept on yapping. There were a lot of comments in the room about how they thought Aguilera was supposed to be doing this stuff, and “who is that?” I let them know so they could go back to their other convos.
Next up, the meat of the pre-game, Christina Aguilera. Yes, this got the room to quiet down, and she is most definitely one of my favorites, but, well… she messed up a line in the tune. Mind you, I didn’t care all that much. I think she did a great job as usual, she got some big Football dudes to cry, and didn’t miss a note. I know the main focus today on the internet is the flubbed line, but do people really care all that much?
Enter the halftime show. Black Eyed Peas entered from the rooftops, and sang some of their best. I will say that live, they just didn’t sound the same, and there were definitely more misses than hits. First, Slash? I like Slash, in fact, Guns N’ Roses are probably my all time favorite band, but that whole segment basically just left me confused. It popped up right in the middle of some great dance music, and Fergie singing ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine?’ Uh, not so much. Now if Axl would have popped up and began to sing, THAT would have been something. To see those two together out there, and to hear that duo would have really wowed.
Next, here comes Usher. Now, I’m not a huge Usher fan, but I can say just by the few minutes on the stage, he could have headlined this gig. Course the first thing I noticed was how his white pants didn’t fit him all that well as he danced next to a whole slew of dancers in white pants that seemed to find fitting trousers. Oh well, I guess it was a fashion statement of some kind. Maybe I’m old, but I am not to fond of young, grown men in what appears to be diapers. He did well however, and it sounded fantastic. Re-enter the Peas, and we finish where we left off. Maybe in the stadium is was amazing, but it just underwhelmed me on TV. The dancers in the changing color LED suits were neat though.
I will say thank GOODNESS Bieber didn’t show up. I expected him to since he is now EVERYWHERE. That would have probably taken my review from underwhelmed to using halftime to get some more eats in a room far from the television.
