NBC Shuts Down “Animal Practice”

And we will miss Crystal the monkey. Animal Practice opened to large numbers with its pre-season preview during the 2012 London Olympics, but has since struggled to truly find a following. Opening Wednesday nights for NBC proved to be quite the challenge for Crystal and the rest of the hospital crew.

The show has brought in week numbers after it’s premiere on Sept. 26, this week bringing in under 4 million viewers and a measly 1.0 demo rating, which for NBC this year is not a number to be proud of. NBC has consistently been atop of the networks this season so far. Nothing has been said about the show’s neighbor, Guys With Kids.

As we noted before, NBC has delayed the premieres of Whitney and Community, likely for a moment like this. Whitney will indeed take over the 8pm slot on Wednesday night starting November 14. Animal Practice will finish out it’s run on November 7, as NBC plans to air the completed work. Production will halt this week. Animal Practice is the season’s second casualty, after CBS cancelled Made in Jersey after just two episodes.
