Next up in the Best Actress category is Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole. She plays a mother who is struggling to come to terms with the death of her four year old son. She is also in a marriage strained by the death of a child, who are having trouble communicating with one another even eight months after their loss. Since they cannot find understanding in one another, they look for it in other surreptitious relationships. Kidman’s husband (played brilliantly by Aaron Eckhart) finds solace in a grieving parent’s group, while she forms an unusual bond with the boy responsible for knocking down her son with his car. Kidman’s performance seizes and demands your attention, stunning the audience without manipulating them for tears.
