Oscar Week: Meet The Nominees, Part III

Next up on the Best Supporting Actor roster is Jeremy Renner for The Town. Renner plays Jem, best friend to Ben Affleck’s character, and fellow bank robber. A career criminal, Jem seems to inwardly know and acknowledge that the road he is on will lead to his final day and readily accepts it. We learn in the course of the movie that he spent time in prison for the murder of a man who was out to kill Affleck’s character, and thusly Jem feels as though Affleck owes him at least to stick it out in their crimes. While he may not make his character likeable, he digs deep into this role and brings depth to what others may have just left on the surface. A terrific follow up to last year’s nominated performance in The Hurt Locker (and yes, this writer’s personal favorite).
