Another week, another ANTM review! What did the girls bring us this week? Let’s get all caught up!
Well, the girls didn’t have any problem telling us how they felt after Kacey was gone. Liz was excited, and Kendel said she was so happy; and mean come on, she wasn’t that nice anyway. Kayla was feeling bummed about being bottom two, but she said it only motivated her to do better. Esther head was more in the competition, she feels really lucky to be involved but she wants to make sure she stays true to who she is and a big part of her is her religion. Chris said that she could never be kosher like Esther, not only is a lot of work but there’s a lot of food you can’t eat. Chelsey made the obviously comment that Ann was big competition for her, after winning best picture five weeks in a row makes her big competition for everyone.
Tyra Mail: Sometimes you have to perform a duet before you can perform a solo. The girls were driven to the Grammy Museum where they met up with Jay, who introduced them to Neil Portnow. He explained that the winner of the challenge today would be chosen to be a Grammy Girl (the ladies that hand out the awards to the stars) during the 2011 award ceremony. They chose their teams of two, and the challenge was that each girl had to pick a grammy appropriate outfit for their partner. They would have ten minutes to find an outfit for their team mate in the shop called Sheik Little Devil. Jay would pick the winning team, while Neil would pick the winning girl; the teams were Ann and Chelsey; Kendel and Chris; Esther and Jane; Liz and Kayla. Liz was extremely shocked and excited, she’s been watching the Grammys forever and is completely in love with the show. Chelsey was uncomfortable pairing with Ann, she doesn’t think their personalities go well together, and it stresses her. Chris and Kendel agreed that they wanted to look sexy but not too sexy, more of a formal sexy. Liz told Kayla she wanted a tight dress with a long poofy train, but Kayla didn’t really believe that was a good idea. Esther told Jane she didn’t want anything strapless, and Jane was nervous because its hard enough to shop for yourself, doing it for someone else has to be much more complicated. Kayla got Liz sparkling pants and a cute top instead of a long dress, and she was fuming for a little while. Jane had trouble trying to find something the right cup size for Esther but ended up finding her something nice. Chelsey found it to be a big challenge to show for someone really tall but she found her a good dress. Ann however didn’t do as well, and got Chelsey a really complicated dress that was way too big for her.
Once they had their outfits, they went in front of Jay and Neil in their pairs to be judged. They asked Kayla and Liz about their dresses and Liz explained that she wanted a dress but once she tried on the outfit Kayla picked for her it was a good fit and completely her style, and actually really cute. Kayla said she picked the outfit because she wanted to bring personality to their outfits. Liz picked out a short dress for Kayla that showed off her legs like she wanted. Neil asked the girls how they would handle being in front and around the talent and Kayla said should would be professional. Liz said she would probably take a week to prepare and calm her herself with yoga and meditation, because the awards are big part of her life and she would be so excited. Chris and Kendel were up next, Chris explained that they chose their outfits because they wanted to dress formal, with something fitting, without being too sexy like from a strip. Jay immediately said thats exactly what they looked like. Chris later said that she didn’t know what he was talking about, she liked her dress. When asked how they would handle the talent, Kendel said she would be nervous and she would probably drink a red bull. I don’t think that was the right thing to say but moving on. Esther and Jane went up and Kendel immediately thought they looked like they were going to sunday school. Esther explained that Jane got her a nice, slightly tight, black dress and she got Jane a nice, fitting, purple dress was because they agreed it was about being formal and presentable. Chelsey had no idea how to wear her dress so she went in front of Jay and Neil clutching it and trying to prevent it from falling. Jay commented on it and after she explained he said that even if was the case, a model should always wear their outfit with confidence, to sell it. Jay looked to Ann and told her she looked beautiful, and that he loved her dress. Chelsey believed this wasn’t fair because they were giving her all the credit when Chelsey was the one who picked out her outfit and took the time to find something nice for Ann. I agree with her, its hard to shop for someone else, she deserved a little credit for finding something that fit Ann’s odd frame. Chelsey was frustrated with Ann because she didn’t feel she didn’t take the time to find something good for her. For heavens sake it was even in the wrong size when she told Ann what her size was.
Jay and Neil then proceed to discuss the pairs, Neil thought Kendel would take attention away from the talent if she were on the stage, but he liked Chris’s enthusiasm. Jay thought that Kendel might have tried to sabotage Chris with her stripper-like dress, but Kendel didn’t know what he was talking about. Jay said he loved Kayla’s flirty attitude, and loved that Liz worked her outfit even though it wasn’t what she wanted. They agreed that Esther had a good perspective but she couldn’t be the star, and that Ann looked good but her height would be bad visually. Chelsey might make the audience nervous if she had the same demeanor she had in front of them. Jay chose the winning team to be Kayla and Liz; and Neil decided that the winner girl is Kayla. She cried and was so happy that a small girl with nothing had made it all the way to be a grammy girl. Liz was pissed, she felt she wanted this more than any of the other girls because she’s grown up with the show and its a big part of her life and she was so close. She decided she would drink some alcohol to make herself feel better, so when she got back to the house, she got drunk. And here we thought we wouldn’t have any drama now that Kacey was gone, nope now we have a drunken model. Chris thought she was trippin’; and Chelsey thought it was over the line, that Liz knew how to play the victim and would be the first to complain if anything went wrong in a shoot, and that she’s probably not as strong as she wants to be.
Tyra Mail: sometimes being labeled can be a good thing. The girls were taken to Smashbox Studios were they met up with Jay who told them they should know by now that fashion is a business and like a business professional models should know the designers. Thats why the models were going to portray iconic fashion designers in this weeks photo-shoot with photographer Francesco Carrozzini who’s the most sought after photographer of his generation. To transform into the fashion designer, you have to understand their personality and connect with who they are. Before each of their shoots Jay went around to each of the models to make sure they understood the designer they were matched with. Ann was going to portray Alexander Wang; Chris was Besty Johnson; Kayla was Vivian Westwood; Liz was John Galleono; Jane was Mark Jocabs; Esther was Christof Decorno; Chelsey was Karolina Herrara; and Kendel was Vera Wang. Esther had trouble portraying the opposite gender, she didn’t have the right attitude the photographer wanted and he had to continue to remind her that she was a guy; Jay thought that she struggled a lot and that her shoot was a big disappointment. Francesco loved Chris’s spunky, energetic nature; she jumped for her shot and he loved that she was quirky, and told her she did good. Francesco thought Liz was beautiful, that she became the designer; Jay agreed that she really stepped up and that this was her best shoot yet. Kayla had great energy, and she was really performing her designer; Francesco loved her smile, and Jay said she knew what he wanted and she gave it to him; they told her she was great. Francesco thought Kendel wasn’t passionate, that she needed life in her expression; Jay thought she was flat and boring. They thought Chelsey was good, Ann was described as wonderful, and Jane was difficult and they thought she had no clear idea of what to do and couldn’t bring her character out.
At panel the girls were judged based on their fashion designer photograph and they started with Kayla. They said her photo was very striking, her eyes were strong, that this was her best shoot yet, she was convincing, because she really went for it. There was fire in her face that matched the fire of her hair, they really liked her photo. Liz was next, and before they got to the picture Andre told her that what she was wearing was her best panel look so far. Her photo was described as brilliant as it was subtle, that she really caught the essence of her designer. She had the gift of androgyny which Tyra said was like her best asset, they agreed that her picture was something magical. Chelsey was told this is her best photo so far and that it was fantastic, the judges said it could use a little more charm though only because the designer is known to be very charming. Esther was told she was too relaxed in her face, that she didn’t have enough of herself in the picture, and she could have done better if she exaggerated her bone structure. Jane was told that she puffed her chest too much, and she was acting the opposite of her designer. Kendel was not taking directions, and it was coming off as if she wasn’t trying at all; she was told that personality makes the model and she needed to be the verb and not just the noun. Ann was surprising, and great; they loved the way she looked. Chris was brillant, and had great energy; but she didn’t have to jump every time, she gave Francesco what he wanted but she should always try something different to switch it up.
In deliberation, the judges of panel came to a decision. They agreed that Liz completely captured her designer, and that she made it sexy. They said that Kayla did an incredible job, and they loved her. They thought Chelsey had a good challenge but whether she was a model or not was in question. They believed Esther was not connected in the photo-shoot, they didn’t know if Kendel wanted to be here because she wasn’t modeling, and they Jane needed to be more aware. They believed Ann had a superpower, and she was very impressive, and they loved Chris’s energy and she could be a ‘sledge hammer’ model. Eight models came to panel, but only seven will stay. The best photo this week was Liz! Yay, she broke the Ann streak and this is back to being a competition. Runner up was, yup you guessed it-Kayla! Yay! Third was Ann, it seemed to be humbling and we can only hope she’s not too bummed about losing her top spot. Then Tyra called up Chelsey, Chris, and Jane. The bottom two-one of which has to leave the show-were Esther and Kendel. Tyra told Esther that she started slow, and got stronger but when she slipped back, she slipped hard. She had a beautiful look but its only one look and the winner needs to be a chameleon. Tyra told Kendel that her look was a rare look that the judges haven’t seen in years but she’s so unsure of herself and she continues to fall. She seems to have been born a model, but does she have the skills to be a model? The girl who stayed was Esther but she needs to stand out and be special. Kendel had to go home, she had said in panel that she needs more experience, Tyra said she needs somebody to ask to help her push through her nervous. She said a tearful good bye and believed that she really wanted to be there but the judges didn’t see that.
What do you think? Did Kendel deserve to go home? Did Kayla deserve to be a grammy girl? Did Liz go too far by getting drunk? What did you think of the photo-shoot? Let us know below or in the FORUM! We can yak about it.
