(9/10/12) Update: Reports are now circulating that Enrique Iglesias is OUT of the running, as negotiations with Fox have stopped. No word as to what stopped negotiations, although we’re willing to bet it is money. Randy Jackson is now reportedly back IN the running to join Carey, Minaj and Urban on the panel. Remember, as far as we now, Minaj and Urban are not 100% confirmed but pretty much in. Although, that’s what we were led to believe about Iglesias.
As we have been reporting throughout the summer, the American Idol judges panel has seen a lot of changes. First JLo announced that she will be leaving, followed by Steven Tyler. There was then speculation that an Idol alum, among other possible options, was going to sign on as judge for the grandfather of singing competitions. Now it seems as if the Idol judging panel has been finalized, according to Deadline. It appears Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Enrique Iglesias will join Mariah Carey, as Idol reverts back to four judges. For the first time in the shows ten year history, all four judges will be artists in the industry.
Carey is reportedly earning $15-17 million, with Minaj and Iglesias in the $10-12 million range, with Urban rounding it out with $3-5 million, which is too low, if you ask me.
Meanwhile, on the front of the other singing competition on Fox, it appears that our initial reports are indeed correct. Khloe Kardashian is indeed the frontrunner to host The X Factor this fall. Decisions should be made soon, as a host will be needed after the taped audition stages. We do know that Simon Cowell has wanted a male/female host duo, but there has been little talk on who the Y component of the duo will be. Speculation still centers around Kevin McHale of Glee. As for why a Kardashian? Well, based on the “success” the family has had, Cowell hopes that the crowd will follow this member of the family over to Fox and leave TRL’s Carson Daly over at NBC. Let the battles begin.
