The 2014 NFL season has just gotten underway with pre-season football, but the internet is already a-buzzing with rumors regarding the headliner for the XLIX Superbowl. The NFL is kicking off of a season with the Seattle Seahawks as reigning champs. Super XLVIII was headlined by mega superstar Bruno Mars.
As for Superbowl XLIX, which will take place February 1, 2015 in Glendale, Arizona, rumor has it that country superstar Carrie Underwood will be billed as the championship game’s halftime headliner. Sources with ties to the NFL planning committee are supposedly stating that someone who already has close ties to the NFL will be given the halftime slot.
Underwood took over the Sunday Night Football theme for NBC last season, succeeding country star Faith Hill. The rumors might have some substance to them, as the Superbowl is slated to air on NBC this season. The songstress also performed along side Aerosmith during Superbowl XLVI for the Pepsi Fan-Jam and performed the National Anthem in 2010. Underwood has already been announced to participate in the Superbowl pre-game kickoff video which, according to a release, will feature ““high-end digital graphics, the Lombardi trophy replicated larger than life and the traditional Super Bowl Roman numerals taking various shapes across the screen.”
The American Idol winner already has strong ties with NBC, in addition to SNF, after starring in the Sound of Music LIVE in December.
