Just when we thought we were done with the duck lips, here comes ABC with a new series based on the tired selfie itself. Yes, you are reading this right. Because “$#*! My Dad Says” (another sitcom based on social media) did oh so well, the ABC Network suits, in their infinite wisdom, has decided to green light yet another social media-themed sitcom based on the selfie.
The Network is touting that the sitcom was inspired by “My Fair Lady” but we aren’t sure exactly how after reading the plot. The pilot (titled ‘Selfie‘) by Emily Kapnek, creator of Suburgatory, tells the story of a self-obsessed 20-something woman who is more concerned with how many “likes” she gets rather than being liked in real life. The woman, the story goes, becomes the subject of a nasty viral video and is hit suddently with a ton of new followers, but not in a good way. She then turns to a marketing expert at her company to help repair her now tarnished image.
Get it? No? Me either.
‘Selfie’ will show up on your TVs this Fall. Will you give it a shot or a pass? Let us know in the comments below!
