Last weeks survivor premiere of “Redemption Island” was riveting! The second episode promised an even more exciting season, but proved to be why some people shouldn’t wear pink underwear, chase crabs or shake hands with people on the other tribe.
While many people may think Phillip is strange (which he probably is), I believe he has a big heart but maybe way too much pride. Obviously though, he doesn’t have too much pride since he ran around chasing crabs in his pink underwear.
Thank you to Yak Members Trina, Grandma and Lexi for this wonderful recap! Now read on to see what happened on Survivor last night:
Ometepe tribe:
Francesca is now on redemption island after being voted off last week. “Special agent” Phillip pulls Rob aside after tribal council to tell him that Rob owns Phillips vote from now on. Kristina is very happy and proud of herself that she didn’t use her idol because she feels she’ll need it this week.
Zapatera tribe:
Ralph, the farmer from Virginia, accidentally finds the hidden immunity idol. He says this game is his now, not Russells.
Challenge:
Swim to a ladder, climb up, jump off breaking a tile to retrieve a key. Once all the keys are found, open a chest and get a ball. Use said ball to break five tiles. The first tribe to complete the challenge wins immunity and a reward (fishing gear). Ometeppa was in the lead initially. Grant (Ometeppa) dove into the water and didn’t have to take but half a stroke before he was at the ladder. Ometeppa stayed in the lead until they took too long to turn the keys in the lock, allowing Zepeterra to pass them up. Ralph took the ball and started tossing it at the tiles. Phillip finally gets their ball and his second toss breaks a tile but Ralph, on fire, breaks four tiles in a row while Phillip struggles. That final tile proved to be a tough one for Ralph while Phillip hits three tiles in a row, both tribes now tied. It’s the last toss… up, up, whose ball is going to break the tile? Ka-boom, Ralph’s does. Zepeterra wins immunity and the reward.
On the way to the camp, Russell tells his partners in crime, Stephanie and Krista, to watch the fishing gear and see if the clue for the hidden immunity idol is in there, and if so, grab it and don’t tell anyone. After arriving back at camp with the reward, Russell finds it himself, and sneaks the immunity idol clue out of the fishing gear. He’s seen by big Ralph who tells everyone that Russell took and hid the clue and decides to confront Russell in front of Russell’s new alliance (Krista and Stephanie). Russell denies taking the clue (at first) and tells Big Ralph he better not come at him like that. Russell declares Big Ralph the dumbest player ever to play survivor, unaware that Ralph has already found the hidden immunity idol. Russell then admits to Ralph that he does in fact have the clue. Ralph tells him that the tribe won the prize as a “team”, so the clue should belong to the tribe as a whole, but Russell, in all his Survivor wisdom, tells Ralph that is not how to play the game, and he knows how to play the game. Ralph, walking away from Russell mocking his arrogant smirk, says he knows how to play the game too. Wonder what Russell would think knowing Ralph has the idol?
Back at Ometepe Boston Rob has formed an informal alliance with 5 players including Matt and Andrea. This Boston Rob I can like better than I did before (although I do believe his and Russell’s 15 minutes of fame has been over for a long time now, and just how many chances do you need to get to win Survivor? Time to move on, losers.) They consider voting off the unfiltered Phillip or Kristina. Boston Rob continues to notice that the God fearing Matt and Andrea are getting extremely close, he knows how dangerous it is to have a tight couple in the game (Rob and Amber) and feel they should be broken up. He also points out that after they lost the challenge, Matt shook one of the other tribe member’s hand to congratulate them! Rob is outraged by this and decides although he really likes Matt, he has to go.
Tribal Council:
Off to Tribal Council they go. Phillip is acting like he is really leaving but holds himself together this week and doesn’t spew all the info talked about at camp. Kristina plays her idol. She had two votes but they didn’t count. Phillip got three votes, but Rob’s plan goes into action as the rest of the tribe split the vote intending to cast 4 votes for Matt. Matt is completely blindsided and Andrea is in shock as Matt is sent to Redemption Island to battle Francesca for a chance to return to the game.
Jeff Probst states “It’s the first official blindside of the season!”
Is this Redemption Island a good thing? I’m still unsure. I’m not one for change, and usually don’t like it much, but then again, I don’t like Russell and they keep letting his ugly mug come back.
All in all though, so far it’s turning out to be a great season! What do you think? Is this shaping up to be one of your favorite seasons of Survivor? Are you happy the Farmer outwitted the villain? Were you unhappy to see Matt sent to the island? Let us know below, and don’t forget to come to the Forum HERE to discuss the show!
