Survivor Redemption Island is starting to either heat up or cool down, i’m not sure which. After watching this episode, I am flabbergasted by the amount of “let’s not think for ourselves” people there are on this show. So let’s get right down to basics.
Sarita was voted out of Zepeterra. Off she went to Redemption Island where she will battle Matt. Back at the two tribal camps, the tree mail comes in and ALL members of both tribes are told they will witness the duel. So off they go… and in comes Matt and Sarita. This will be an endurance competition for the two of them. They have three little pegs to put their feet on and they brace themselves with their arms against wooden sides. At fifteen minute intervals they will go down until they are on the third, and smallest, peg. So off they go! Matt has a bad cut on his foot so you have to wonder how he will handle this.
The Duel
Sarita gets comfortable on the first peg as does Matt. Matt squirms his injured foot a little bit but he’s still on there. Fifteen minutes pass and down they go to the second peg. At this time Jeff Probst finds it necessary to ask Phillip if he has any words of wisdom for Matt since everyone is cheering on Sarita from the Zepeterra tribe. Bad move, Jeff! By 22 minutes in the competition, Phillip was still talking. I have no clue what he said. My eyes crossed at 30 seconds and that was that. Once he quit, it was time to move down to the third, and smallest, peg.
Sarita leans to her left and looks really comfortable. Made me wonder if Matt was finally going to lose and how sad that would be. Sad because Sarita is no competition in my humble yet right opinion. Matt adjusts himself on the peg quite a bit. I imagine that cut on his foot is really bothering him. Then Sarita starts moving a little. Then a little bit more. AND SARITA IS OFF!!! Yes, Matt will rejoin the game. He will return to Ometeppe.
Jeff now tells the tribes they are merged. They head to an entirely new camp as opposed to seasons past where they choose one tribe’s camp or the other. They will have to start over and build a shelter, etc. I think that’s fair and should have been that way all along in other seasons.
When they get back to camp, there’s food. They all sit down for a little picnic and have to make up a new name for their tribe. Boston Rob suggests “Mulronio”. He says it means washed up from the sea and united. In his little interview he’s cracking up laughing. He says that’s a joke between him and Amber. One of their son’s toys is the leader and they call it Mulronio. (See what I mean by stupid people. They eat up everything Boston Rob says).
Mike, from Ometeppe, takes a chance to talk to Matt and try to get him to swing to their tribe and help out with the votes. He promises Matt final four and says he has access to an immunity idol if his tribe wants to vote him out. Matt is torn between keeping his word and making a power move. He and Andrea talk and agree to keep everything between themselves, but Matt is still struggling with his moral compass. What is so bad is that a moral compass is the last thing you need on Survivor.
Boston Rob and his tribe of “Rob can do no wrong and knows everything” followers (or as I like to call the two girls “the drooling fawners”) decide to vote out Mike from Zepeterra. Now Mike wants to go after Grant (no, not my eye candy). Matt, being not of sound mind and having a huge moral compass, makes the mistake of telling Boston Rob all about what he had planned to do, then telling Boston Rob that he just couldn’t do it, that he had to follow what his heart was telling him to do. Can you say “dumb, dumb, dumb”? What does that do? That puts Boston Rob’s target right back on Matt. So Rob gathers his little followers together and tells them to vote out Matt… Send Matt back to Redemption Island.
Matt starts watching and gets paranoid. This is when Mike tries one more time to get Matt to switch sides. Promises him final three.
Immunity:
Immunity came down to Mike and Natalie holding a plate, standing on a log with three balls on it. Mike had been so fundamentally steady throughout the challenge. Then a fly landed on one of his balls on the plate. It flew up and I believe Mike lost his train of thought, and off he went. Natalie won immunity. Well, believe me, that’s all she was good for considering her and Ashley do absolutely nothing around camp anyway.
Tribal Council
Fast forward to Tribal Council… Will Matt swing to the other side? Will Grant get voted off? Just when you think things are figured out, Ralph plays his idol for Mike just to ensure that Mike doesn’t get voted off. Matt, in a really stupid move, votes for Steve. Five votes for Grant, and buh-bye, six votes for Matt and off he goes, back to Redemption Island.
Can you say never buy what a previous Survivor player is selling? Can you say never trust the words of Boston Rob? Ha! Next week it looks like Grant is going to have a change of heart! Or is he? Why don’t they all turn on Boston Rob? I know Natalie and Ashley won’t, they’re too dumb. They are a lot like Stephanie and Krista with Russell… Drooling, obsessing, and just following whatever Rob says. Oh to be around when they get voted out.
