Troy “Troyzan” Robertson the 50 year old swimsuit photographer from Miami Florida was voted off Survivor this week in the 11th episode of Survivor One World. Troy was an avid Survivor fan that had applied for every season since season 1!. He was a finalist several times and a semi-finalist twice prior to making it on his favorite show for Survivor One World. Troy would return to do Survivor again in a heartbeat, is proud to have made it as far as he did, however ultimately he really had plans to win the million dollar prize. He still wants the title of “Sole Survivor.” Troy spoke to us with as much enthusiasm as he brought to the game.

The Yak: Sorry to see you go last night. After reacting so strongly to winning immunity, how do you feel about how they reacted to you?
Troy: I just didn’t like them. I didn’t really care one way or another, I thought they were being smug, especially Chelsea and Sabrina. I just wanted to get into their heads. I just wanted to do anything to play with their minds, to make them do something different or to be afraid of me, you know. I was trying to do everything in my power because I was by myself. Watching it back on TV I just thought they were pretty smug.
The Yak: Looking back what was the key factor to the downfall of the guys alliance?
Troy: The thing is people keep talking about this guy and girl alliance thing. At the merge there never was a guy and girl alliance. The guy and girl alliance thing was out after Colton got sick. When we merged we merged at 6/6 but it really wasn’t 6/6 because Mike was always going to go with the girls. Mike was a girl. Jay in hindsight was always going to go with the girls because he was in love with Kim and Chelsea and he was a girl. Tarzan as well, as soon as he figured the guy alliance wasn’t going to happen he was with Alicia the whole way. She could tell him anything and he would do whatever, so he was a girl. So really there was no girl/guy thing. The only way it would have stayed guy/girl was if Colton stayed. The minute he left that guy/girl thing was out the window.
The Yak: Why do you think Kat didn’t flip on the girls?
Troy: Because Kat doesn’t know the game 100%. I don’t believe that she’s seen a lot of Survivor and didn’t really know how to make a big move on her own and she just trusted the very first person that she met, which was Kim and she stayed with that. That was it, she was basically playing the game in fear which is what most of the players are doing, playing just to stay around instead of playing to win, a big difference.
The Yak: First and foremost going back to Bill, what made you guys want to go through with voting Bill out even after your tribe won immunity?
Troy: Well for me personally Bill was, in the beginning, with the four frat boys. If they had gotten Colton they were going to vote me out. I was gone. Bill was going to vote for me and once I found that out I thought if Bill was going to vote me out once, he’ll vote for me again and he has the ability to flip. Bill was a great storyteller. He could lie with the best of them. If he’s going to go after me why not get rid of him now. He was never going to be in my pocket. At that point we still had the numbers with Colton, Leif, Tarzan and Jonas so I was okay with that. I didn’t know Colton was going to be a villain and a jerk but he was a number and out there that’s all you’re thinking about. You’re not really thinking about people’s personalities that much. (laughs)
The Yak: Were you thinking about who you wanted to sit next to at the end if you made it that far?
Troy: Oh yeah, for sure. I wanted someone who I knew that the jury would be like there’s no way I will give this vote to the super coattailer like Christina or Tarzan. I think I could out talk Tarzan at tribal and those two are the one’s I probably would have taken.
The Yak: What have fans reactions been like after the game?
Troy: It’s been surprisingly super positive! It’s been like 99% positive. People say you’ve really played with your heart on your sleeve. People that know me like my family and coworkers say “wow, that’s really you 100%.” It really was, there was nothing fake about it. I played 100%. That person out there “Troyzan”, that’s me Troy Robertson. So it’s been really, really more than I expected and a little overwhelming. People are telling me I should be an allstar. It’s been pretty good.
The Yak: Talk about Kim a little bit. What was it about her that made people believe her and trust her so much? You were alligned with her for a minute or two.
Troy: She’s very low key and she doesn’t really talk a whole lot. The thing is too, obviously we are out there 24 hours a day. We’re talking about a lot of things that have nothing to do with Survivor, especially at night we are just talking and telling stories about our lives, etc. She was very good at talking about what she does, it was very calming. the girls especially that she was playing with didn’t really know anything about Survivor and strategizing so it was just easy for her to influence people. She’s a deceptive person, she’s a very good liar, that’s the way that she is. I’ve said this before, like you know out there what you see is really who we are. Deep down inside that’s who we are. If you’re starving and you’re hungry and you’ve been there for 30 days scrapping around, what really is inside you comes out. If you have the ability to lie and scheme out there then you have the ability to do that in the outside world. What we are showing the world is just a facade of who we are. Deep down inside we are who we are. Everyone that you see out there like Sabrina said “It is what it is”? I’m saying “you are who you are.”
The Yak: When Kim basically made up the story about Mike going after you it seems like from what we saw that you didn’t question her even for one second. You seem like a real savvy Survivor fan, was that what really happened or did you question if she was telling the truth or not?
Troy: What had happened was Mike was against me from day one. He had been saying things to me at camp. He was full of BS. He was caught in lies of who he was going to vote or not vote for. You know I heard from Jay a few times that Mike was talking to the girls telling them that I had my own agenda. He was against me from day one because we voted out his big guy Matt. He would say smart ass things like “yes, sir your highness:” So when I heard that from Kim that was the culmination of tons of BS for the last 3 or 4 weeks, I had had it. It wasn’t like it was the first time I heard Mike was saying things about me. It was the straw that broke the camels back. It was very believable. In hindsight she picked the right person to irk me. It was so believable.
The Yak: When Tarzan gave you the speech about being noble and looking bad after you won the immunity challenge how did you not say “Are you kidding me right now, this is coming from you?”
Troy: Yes, exactly. Tarzan sits there and scolds me, he tells me you need to act noble, He had been that way to other people saying “you should be like this” I wasn’t about to let him tell me how to act. I thought noble? This is a game that has nothing to do with noble you kooks, look at you people, you’re deceivers and liars, don’t tell me about being noble! I’m a competitor and I’m going to play the way I’m going to play. You can’t tell me how to be. That’s why I got so irked when people told me how to act. No, listen Tarzan that’s why he shook my hand cuz I basically called his bluff. He’s acting like a kook with his bikini underwear walking around and half assed face, you saw me kind of laugh like are you joking and it gave me the opportunity to stick up for myself in front of everyone and especially Tarzan. Tarzan could say things to any of the girls and they would back down. I wasn’t going to back down from Tarzan. Like Chelsea telling me to man up, are you kidding me? Like, be nice like Jonas. What? are you kidding me, I’m gonna be Colton’s bitch? (laughs) I’m Troyzan! Was I supposed to take it like a woman? (laughs)
The Yak: When you left tribal we saw in the subtitles that you leaned over to Kat and said “Do it”. Do you think that kind of put a target on her back”
Troy: Well at the time I didn’t. I just wanted to give her a boost of confidence. Listen Kat you’re an underdog, and I was rooting for an underdog at that point. When Jeff called my name I thought, I want Kat. All these girls think she’s goofy and all that but she’s highly competitive and she was an underdog. I don’t like the way those girls treated her like an underdog has no chance. So for me I want the person they think has zero chance to come through. She can win challenges, she can, she can do very well. That’s why I said that.
The Yak: Where do you think you went wrong ?
Troy: There are circumstances that changed the game. When Colton left that really hurt my game. I knew he was on my side. He trusted me, he had his idol and he showed me that. We were really planning to go far, he was a number on my side and we planned to go to number three or four and maybe he wanted to get rid of me at that point because I was strong, but he was a number on my side and when he left that really hurt me. At that point we merged at 12 and I thought, this is really going to be tough now.
The Yak: Why do you think the remaining players didn’t budge and go with one of your plans?
Troy: Most people are living and playing that game in fear. They are not playing with the mentality “I want to win.” I made moves to win and there’s a huge difference in that. Kim is playing to win. It’s like society, people don’t necessarily like change they’re afraid to change. Trying to change someones mind is almost impossible. I underestimated Kim’s deceitfulness. She’s 100% deceitful.
The Yak: Who was the most frustrating contestant to play the game with?
Troy: Towards the end it was Tarzan, he was very stubborn. In his mind he knew there was a family visit coming and that’s what he was focusing on, he wasn’t focusing on winning. That was very difficult for me I was like, Tarzan please, come on man. He thought by sticking with the women he would make it to the family visit. But Christina I just couldn’t get through to her, it felt like I was talking to a brick wall. I really tried, people are telling you you’re at the bottom, what part of this are you not grasping? She was just not grasping it. I went over it with her time and time again the numbers, it was so frustrating you feel like you’re not talking to a rational person. If people are rational they have an idea of where they’re going to go.
The Yak: You’ve been a Survivor fan and obviously you’ve seen the outcome of bitter juries. What did you base your criteria on for voting for the winner? What qualities did you base your vote on?
Troy: I’ve looked for qualities. Did this person strategize in the way that I felt was the way that was fair or unfair? Did this person coattail? Did this person work to get where they are? In the past a lot of juries have based it on only how good someone is in a challenge and for some reason they were great in challenges and they made the best speech in the end. I didn’t base my vote on that.
I took in a bunch of different things and kind of focused in on one person and said this is what I need to do to give a person a million dollars.
The Yak: Thank you for taking the time with us today Troy!
