In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, ABC has canned Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The show will close its doors at the end of the current season, its ninth overall. The show, however, will not be completely gone from ABC’s primetime schedule right away. The network has announced that it will air four upcoming specials, but it will not be a weekly staple in some homes. The two-time Emmy award winning show will make its final bow on January 13th, which happens to be it’s 200th episode. The finale will feature the team rebuilding homes and changing lives for those affected in Joplin, Missouri.

After the show transitioned to Friday nights, ratings haven’t been the same. Struggling against other network offerings, ratings have been sub-par to ABC’s expectations. To date, the team has designed and rebuilt more than 200 homes, in addition to firehouses, schools, daycares and more, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

“It is with a somber heart I close this chapter, but with such excitement I begin the next one,” designer Michael Moloney said in a statement. “I have EM:HE to thank for the platform I have to continue doing good work and great design in 2012 and on.”

As for Ty Pennington, the show’s host, he has a new gig already lined up. He joins Tim Gunn and Harley Pasternak in a new ABC Daytime health and lifestyle series called The Revolution. The show will premiere in January.

Earlier today, ABC joined NBC and released their plans for midseason. After the holiday season, ABC hopes to return to the primetime world with a strong showing. With no shows really on the move and new additions to the lineup, a fan favorite is noticeably missing from the schedule. With ABC leaving Cougar Town off of the schedule, people have to wonder whether the 5 new shows ABC plans on adding to their schedule will help boost their popularity in the primetime field.

New sitcom, Work It, will replace Man Up after the new year. Missing will take over the spot for Angels once Wipeout finishes out it’s run. Once Pan Am lands its final flight (will it be back for another season?) GCB, airing at 10/9c, will make an argument to hold on to the Desperate Housewives audience. ABC revealed this morning the 12 pairs for Season 13 of Dancing with the Stars!

According to TV-Guide, defending champ Kym Johnson will aim for back-to-back Mirrorball trophies with David Arquette, while fellow two-time champs Mark Ballas and Cheryl Burke are partnered with reality stars Kristin Cavallari and Rob Kardashian, respectively.

Chaz Bono is partnered with former finalist Lacey Schwimmer.

After taking last season off to film a movie, Derek Hough will gun for a record fourth Mirrorball with Ricki Lake.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who made it no secret this summer that he wants to be paired with soccer star Hope Solo, got his wish. His brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, joins the cast as a pro this season and will be paired with George Clooney’s ex, Elisabetta Canalis.

Peta Murgatroyd and Tristan McManus, who were in the Dancing troupe last season, are the other newbie pros. Murgatroyd will hit the hardwood with Ron Artest; McManus, Nancy Grace.

Dancing with the Stars premieres Monday, Sept. 19 at 8/7c on ABC.

How many people can the evil Dr. David Hayward bring back from the dead? Even I am amazed that I didn’t catch on to the fact that he had something to do with bringing Dixie back to close out this story.

Is it possible that David is secretly caring for Zach somewhere too? Kendall started talking to Griffin and she mentioned an old character Maria Santos. Griffin is interested in this story. Kendall mention that Maria supposedly died in a plane accident like Zach and Dr. Hayward nursed her back to health for years when everyone thought Maria was dead. When Maria returned to the show, she had no memory and Hayward was behind the whole thing. Did Zach really die? They never found the body. Hmmm….?

Tad gets a package from Dixie’s father, which includes a diary from Dixie. Dixie’s father had passed away and so her diary was sent to Tad.

JR Chandler is back off the wagon. Dixie struggles to escape David Hayward’s mysterious hospital room.

Griffin decides to contact Maria Santos and find out what happened between her and Dr. Hayward when she was supposedly dead. Maria remembers something about Dr. Hayward’s mystery project.

Tad and Cara begin to go through Dixie’s diary when Tad decides to leave it alone and he leaves the house with Cara.

Amanda may have cancer caused by a disease from a “one-nighter” with JR. JR and Amanda have a discussion and JR tells Amanda that Marissa has left him for Bianca. JR continues his drinking binge.

Greenlee now remembers when she was being nursed back to health while everyone thought SHE was dead and Greenlee tells Ryan that she has a recollection of Dr. Hayward’s secret project.

Maria Santos releases information to Griffin about Dr. Hayward’s secret project.

Asher is approached about his new addiction to pain medication. Asher denies having any problem.

Caleb takes Asher over to JR’s house and they find JR drunk. Caleb decides to take Asher to his house.

Greenlee starts to “play” Dr. Hayward to find out what this secret project is and if she and other people were victims of his illegal experimental treatments.

After a drunk JR looks at a picture of his father, Adam Chandler, he grabs his car keys and a bottle of whiskey.

Griffin confronts Dr. Hayward and asks if his project is research or if he has been “experimenting on humans”.

Think back over the years of this show.  The mysterious banging sound that the REAL Erica Kane has been hearing in her fake bedroom where she has been held hostage, turns out to be Dixie banging on the wall. The final story is developing where all the mysterious deaths, then the return of the character may be lying in the hands of the Evil Dr. Hayward!

Fun stuff! Dr. Hayward and Greenlee had a conversation in the hospital and the “fake” Erica (Jane) was in scrubs and heard the entire conversation about how David Hayward did not love Erica and he was settling for second best since he could not have Greenlee. David makes a call to move a patient. This is probably Dixie. Then he mentioned to move ALL of the patients. Who are they? Maybe Adam Chandler? Who else is missing?

Dr. Hayward returned to Dixie’s room and she was gone.

To end a dramatic day…Dixie stumbles through a park where her daughter Kate, with Tad, is playing and recognizes her.

The week started off with Kendall meeting up with the creepy Reverend Ricky at his hotel room and Kendall was in serious danger as Ricky pushed himself on her. Fortunately Griffin was following her and saved the moment without being seen.

In the mean time, Tad is falling in love with Cara, although she is a handful. However, Tad is the man for the job! He loves a great challenge!

Marissa is starting to show more googly eyes at Bianca. It will be interesting to see when Reese is brought back into the picture. Marissa has also agreed to temporarily move in with JR just for the sake of having a place to live at the moment.

Jackson is getting tired of waiting for Erica to come back to him, since he does not know she has been kidnapped. Jack kisses Krystal. Afterwards, Erica is able to get a hold of a hidden cell phone from Jack that was put inside a book and called for help. Now the word is out that Erica has been abducted and did not leave everyone on the day of her wedding.

David rears his ugly head and overhears that Madison was not aware of Greenlee getting Scott Chandler out of jail and paying him to keep Madison away from Ryan. Madison is devastated, although she does not realize that Scott has really fallen in love with her. The stress is too much for Madison and she goes into premature labor.

Erica’s stalker has gotten frustrated with Erica knowing she was able to get a warning call out on a cell phone. The stalker emerges…it is Erica Kane!!!! A twin! (Or, some sick fan.) While looking for Erica; Asher, Caleb and Jack get caught in a surprise blast.

Well, could be the results knocked us backwards and we’re still sluggish, but better late than never Yakksters! Tuesday night brought us another goodbye from the ballroom and honestly, I wasn’t that surprised by who went. To be completely truthful, I was rather nonplussed by the entire episode, even with the producers attempt at a “WTH?!?” fake out with the bottom group (does anyone seriously think the bottom three is really the bottom three, or rather the actual couple leaving and two other couples the producers throw in for dramatic effect?).

Jennifer Hudson was there…but then again, she’s everywhere, including my TV murdering a perfectly fine Nina Simone song. Not that J.Hud doesn’t have a great voice, but I’m sick of hearing her sing it every single dang day on my TV too. It’s to the point that it rivals my distaste for the Swiffer commercials and that says alot. So, she sang a couple songs, she sang really well, etc. etc. etc. Not really a fan here. Congrats on the baby though, he’s a doll.

Then there was a Swan Lake performance during the Macy’s Star of Dance segment that was pretty cool too. During all this, couples found out if they were safe or in “jeopardy” a.k.a. “the red light of doom”. The three couples in jeopardy were Mark/Chelsea, Petra/Dmitry and Sugar Ray/Anna. It was at that point I was saying bye bye to a particular person, but oh let’s draw out the drama even more ABC! Petra and Dmitry, you’re safe. Mark and Chelsea, you had the highest scores the previous night and danced to a very recognizable classical piece if you’re a Harry Potter fan. They’re in the bottom two, heck three even…suuuuuuuuuuure. So it was down to them and Sugar Ray/Anna. Did anyone even need Bergeron to announce it? Bye bye Sugar Ray, you were endearing.

According to TV Guide, there has been some “reliable” rumors going around about the possibility of ABC canceling All My Children, and likely One Life to Live as well. The word on the street is that ABC daytime chief Brian Frons has a talk show and a reality show lined up for this Fall, which would put the cancellation pretty soon if it were to happen. Both a talk show and a reality show would be much cheaper to produce for the network. Worse yet, supposedly Mr. Frons has shown a ‘devil may care’ attitude towards this decision, which would be a major shift, leaving only General Hospital as the network’s only running Soap. When contacted for comment, ABC Daytime PR chief Jori Petersen told TV Guide, “I have no announcement, and these are just rumors that you are hearing. I am sorry to hear that they’re escalating but I cannot confirm anything.” Course, he also couldn’t confirm that they were just rumors either.

In the meantime however, the same TV Guide reporter says that they were e-mailed by a studio rep, in an effort by ABC to do damage control after the report came out about the cancellation, that All My Children has hired a new (old) head writer, veteren Lorraine Broderick.

This didn’t come as any surprise however to anyone, since the current head writer duo, Dave Kreizman and Donna Swajeski, didn’t really have much success, and were at the end of their contracts. Broderick, who has a long highly regarded history with All My Children, and has great respect and affection for the show, would actually be the perfect fit to wrap the show up unfortunately.

The representative (who did not wish to be named) claims the Broderick deal is “multi-year”, which made many in the press believe this means All My Children will be safe from the axe, however the TV Guide reporter, Michael Logan, doesn’t believe it. According to him, “I’m not budging on the news I delivered last Friday: ABC Daytime chief Brian Frons has marked both soaps for death.”

Sometimes behind the scenes can be just as dramatic as the Soaps themselves apparantly. It’s one of those ‘stay tuned’ moments, waiting for the following week to see what will happen next. Will your beloved characters and show make it through this dangerous situation? I guess we wait and see!

First the facts…Erica Kane is obviously in love with Caleb. She is settling for Jack because she needs to prove a point. Since the sudden elopement proposed by Erica was postponed by Jackson, will Caleb be able to make his move?

Now, let’s get to the BIG story of the week.

Angie Hubbard goes into labor in a remote home where Jessie and Angie had re-visited. Angie passes out, Jessie calls for help while Brot hears on the dispatch radio and heads out to help. In the mean time, Brot finds a mysterious box in his police car with a surprise in it.

When Brot arrives to Jessie and Angie, Angie is still passed out and Jessie is trying to revive his now delivered baby who seems to be non-responsive.

It was a very emotional couple of days, but it was pretty obvious that the package placed in Brot’s car was an abandoned baby. Unfortunately, Ellie did not survive the labor and Brot shows up with an abandoned baby. How convenient… As well as this could work out, I can see this all back firing down the road. But, the way these shows work, the back fire will be all perfect in the end.

Let’s see what is in store for next week! Will Cara discover that Ellie does not belong to Jessie and Angie? Will someone step up and want the baby back? What is in store for Cara and Tad…and what about Kendall and Griffin?

Erica Kane has brought herself back into the limelight of the show making us all think she will be happily married with Jackson, while giving those secret passionate eyes to Caleb.

Then we have Bianca and Reese. In this story, of course Bianca should have custody of the two children she gave birth to…however, in reality the legal system would lean towards Reece (or at least Paris) as to the location of the girl’s best interest. But, we are talking about a soap, right? Reece will be back! In the mean time, there seems to be a little sparkle in the eyes of Bianca and Marissa?

The new competitors for the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars is due to be announced on February 28th, but we are getting rumors of just who may be trading in their day jobs for the Dancing Reality Show.

The first rumor is Wendy Williams. The talk show host is currently rumored to be in the running, reportedly putting her talk show “The Wendy Williams Show” on hiatus next month. Sources told BET yesterday that Williams is indeed part of the show, and from what we gathered on her dancing skills, she could be one heck of a competitor. Wendy, in addition to DWTS, will also be hosting a new Game Show Network show entitled ‘Love Triangle’ which will be taping on the weekends as to not interfere with the dancing competition.

Another rumor? Former Madonna boyfriend and father to Lourdes, Carlos Leon. Now, we have no confirmation whatsoever that it will be this upcoming season, but he has said he has been offered to be on the show in the past, and he is now ready to do it.

According to Leon, “I’ve gotten quite a few offers to do reality shows. I got offered to do Dancing With the Stars a couple years back. I didn’t do it, but if they come up with the offer again, I would totally do it.”

As of right now, Carlos is working hard to promote his new indie comedy ‘Immigration Tango’ in which he costars as one half of an immigrant couple trying to stay in the U.S. The film opens in select cities on Friday.

The upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars is set to premier on March 21 on ABC.

Other rumors include Mark Paul Gosselaar, Baby Spice and Seal. Those are very unconfirmed rumors however, so take them with a grain of salt for now!

Plenty of news has erupted this past week regarding pilot development at the major television networks and we wanted to be sure you didn’t miss out. So, let’s take a look at what the network’s have in store for you, which stars might be returning to TV, and what has a shot as being the next breakout TV hit.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Returns To TV

The return of Buffy is near. Well, not literally Buffy but the one who brought her to life. Gellar will be returning to TV in CBS’ pilot, Ringer, which should get a pick up in May for the 2011-2012 season. Until recently, the show has only been described as a drama about “a troubled young woman on the run who hides out by living the life of her wealthy twin sister, until she learns her sibling’s life has a bounty on it as well.” Pretty vague description, but producer Peter Traugott was able to divulge more information. “It’s a thriller, for sure,” Traugott describes. “It’s an edgy thriller about redemption and about revenge. There’s a point of view of two twin sisters who grew apart over a tragedy in their past. And one now seeks redemption and the other one seeks revenge. The sister who is seeking redemption has had a much more troubled life. When her fancy pants sister disappears, she takes over her life. She’s living the life of her more successful sister only to come to find out that her life is equally as fraught with danger and complication. Her sister dies in a boating accident. The other sister takes on her persona, only to come to find out that they have a hit out on her.” Will you be watching? Excited about Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to TV?

Edgar Allen Poe to TV

ABC has picked up a crime drama where Poe solves mysteries. The official description from ABC describes the production as a “Crime procedural following Edgar Allan Poe as the world’s very first detective, using unconventional methods to investigate dark mysteries in 1840s Boston.” Are we to expect the next great literary figure to make an appearance to TV? Maybe Shakespeare: Las Vegas?

ABC Treks Back to the 60′s, Picks Up Lost & Found and Work It

Pan Am is an intriguing period drama, likely sought after thanks to the success of Mad Men. The project is being described as “a sexy soap set against the Jet-Age, focusing on the stewardesses and pilots and their glamorous world full of exciting adventures.”

In other ABC news, a multi-camera comedy, Lost & Found has been picked up for development. The show is about “a narcissistic New York City bartender and party girl has her life turned upside down when the conservative 18 year old son she gave up for adoption shows up on her doorstep.” Another multi-camera comedy to join the ranks is Work It about “two out of work car salesmen realize that it is now a woman’s world and decide that in order to find work again and succeed they are going to have to dress as women to get jobs as pharmaceuticals reps. Doing this inadvertently makes them better men, husbands and fathers but also makes them appreciate the sanctuary of their guy’s nights at the local bar where they can really be themselves.”

NBC’s Special Investigations L.A., is set in the world of crime, law enforcement, and politics in modern-day Los Angeles. All we know about it is that it’s set in the style of Traffic. I wonder if this is meant to replace the recent woes with Law & Order: LA.

DeNiro’s Latest Project

His cop drama pilot Rookies is  a Manhattan-based series that he’s joined on to produce. The project centers around six NYPD rookies who balance their personal lives with learning the beat on the streets of Manhattan.

NBC Joins Two Acclaimed Comediennes

First up – Chelsea Handler. Yep, you read that right, the unpredictable one from E!. Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea is a multi-camera comedy inspired by her recent book, which is coincidentally based on her life. The series will follow a group of twenty-somethings that is headed by a very outspoken young woman. Handler will not appear on the show but will serve as executive producer.

New NBC boss is apparently working to press the envelope under the new Comcast merger. The other comedy NBC has also ordered a pilot for will star and is based on the comedy of Whitney Cummings. In the show, she’ll play part of a young couple, whereas in real life she’s actually single.

ABC’s Charlie’s Angels pilot is near booked. Well, at least the angel’s part is. Reports are circulating that the other two angels have been cast and negotiations are underway. We recently broke the news when Annie Ilonzeh (General Hospital) was cast as Kate and now we have word as to who will be joining her in the reboot of the classic. It appears that Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights) and Rachael Taylor are close to joining the rank of heavenly hosts. Kelly’s character, which is reportedly being renamed, will join Taylor’s Abby and Ilonzeh’s Kate.

Producing studio Sony Pictures TV and Drew Barrymore’s Flower Films are currently working out in the kinks in Kelly’s character. As it looks now, the character, named Marisa, is described as a former US Marine, a weapons expert trained in all forms of hand-to-head combat. She is also a neat freak.

Abby, played by Rachael Taylor (Transformers), is the youngest and sassiest of the angels. The daughter of a crooked broker on Wall Street, she is an expert con herself, as well as a Krav Maga expert, naturally. Both Kelly and Taylor have kept fresh on TV. Kelly has dabbed in on NBC’s Parenthood, while Taylor has recently started an arc on Grey’s Anatomy as Callie’s obstetrician. The show also features Leonard Goldberg as an executive producer, having been one on the original series. Will you be watching the reboot? What’re your thoughts on the new set of angels?

ABC’s Charlie’s Angels pilot has picked up it’s first angel and she’s no stranger to the ABC landscape. General Hospital cast member, Annie Ilonzeh, has landed one of three coveted leads on the ABC reboot. The project is a Miami take on the classic hit, focusing in on a new trio of sexy “angels” (Kate, Abby, and Marisa), working for a wealthy business man. Ilonzeh will play Kate, a smart and athletic ex-cop who is also a master of martial arts. Go figure. One of them’s got to be able to kick. Kate is apparently the most serious of the three but knows how to have fun from time to time.

Ilonzeh is best known as Maya Ward on Hospital, but has also guested on Melrose Place and Entourage. Her film credits include Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. Looking forward to this Angels reboot? Who else would you like to see cast?

The Academy Awards Producers have announced that this year’s telecast will take viewers on a trip through time, space and movies. Sounds like an episode of the Twilight Zone? Well, it isn’t. According to the Producers, Oscars will be presented in different thematic destinations throughout the show, paying homage to iconic moments in movie history, using music and images to transport the viewer to the most memorable movie experiences.  On these “trips”  is where the “less telecast friendly categories” (like sound and editing) will be awarded. The Academy is hoping that these “trips” will help improve the average movie fan’s understanding of how the different elements help to make the movie they so cherished.

The Oscar Nominees are set to be announced at the Samuel Golden Theatre in Beverly Hills on Jan 25th at 5:30am Pacific time by last years best supporting actress, Mo’Nique. Early favorites are no surprise; The Social Network, True Grit, The King’s Speech, The Black Swan, and The Fighter. I personally think that one that starts with “The” will win this year.

Some of the presenters have already been announced, including Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, Sandra Bullock, Marisa Tomei and Oprah Winfrey. James Franco and Anne Hathaway are set to host the awards.

Recent Oscar buzz: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes supposedly were not going to attend the Oscars because of a recent Anne Hathaway SNL skit where she made fun of Katie. Cruise and Holmes were very upset about how Hathaway portrayed her, and had thought they were friends. However, recent reports from a spokesperson of the Cruise camp says that this story is completely untrue, and that they would never snub an event because of Anne Hathaway. I have included a video of the SNL skit below.

The 83rd Academy Awards will be presented on February 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, and will air live on ABC.

Earlier today, ABC kicked off the Television Critics Association press tour with the announcement that six of it’s acclaimed shows will see another day. Renewed for the 2011-2012 season will be – Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice, Modern Family, The Middle, Cougar Town, and Castle. Noticeably missing from the list of renewed shows ABC announced earlier today are the wives of Wisteria Lane and fellow Sunday hit Brothers & Sisters. While neither show has been officially cancelled, there has been no word regarding the future of the rest of ABC’s lineup. Housewives creator Marc Cherry has a deal for two more seasons in place, while the main wife foursome have contracts expiring at the end of the current season. Word is negotiations are underway that could keep them in suburbia for another season or two. ABC has been pleased with Brothers & Sisters this season, upping their episode count from 18 to 22, but don’t be surprised if this May marks the end of Walkers. As for on the bubble shows like Detroit 1-8-7, ABC entertainment president Paul Lee praised the show’s recent success and for doing “what NYPD Blue did in its day.” A decision on 1-8-7 will come within one or two months.
