Confirmed yesterday, Nigel Lythgoe is for sure coming back as Executive Producer of American Idol, joining forces with Simon Fuller, Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick.  Lythgoe reportedly would also like a way to bring back former Idol judge Paula Abdul, which may be a tough one to crack now being she has signed exclusively [...]

Bret Michaels Rumored to replace Simon on American Idol

Music Bret Michaels Q & A Since performing on the finale of American Idol in May, Bret Michaels has now emerged as the new favorite to replace Simon Cowell as an American Idol judge, who has now left an open seat at the judges table after nine seasons. The show, and Simon himself, took note of the reception Bret Michaels received that night, and is now looking a bit closer at him, sources say.

Michaels had said that he ignored the advice of his MDs, and did the show anyway, performing a duet with 3rd place finalist Casey James. Michaels, who as you know has been in and out of the hospital recently is still recovering from his near fatal brain hemorrhage and recent stroke, received a standing ovation from the Idol crowd when he came out crooning “Every Rose has it’s Thorn.”

...and the winner of American Idol is...

AMERICAN IDOL: Final Two: L-R: Lee DeWyze, Ryan Seacrest and Crystal Bowersox on AMERICAN IDOL airing, Tuesday, May 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. CR: Michael Becker / FOX So another season of American Idol has come to a close.  How would I wrap up the season?  Well, there were a few good moments, and many boring ones.  I myself was a huge Crystal fan, and thought the final two were the perfect choice.  America got that part of it right.  Crystal deserved the win for sure, having many more great moments during the season than Lee had, however I don’t think she needed it as much as Lee did, so the winning choice still made me happy.  Now I know there are many out there that did not prefer the fawning over Crystal that the judges seemed to do, I myself thought it appropriate however since in my opinion she was that good.  Last year though, I was on the other end of that statement, thinking Adam did not deserve the fawning, so I know it all comes down to taste.

The finale:  Now I don’t know if it’s my age, my taste, a little bit of both, but I personally thought this was one of the best finales AI had ever had.  It almost felt like they called me, and asked who I would like to see perform.  Christina was amazing as usual and I loved her new song, Janet was a terrific surprise although that first song she sang sounded eerily like Michael to me (Plus I would have loved to see Paula out there dancing during “Nasty Boys” seeing as she was a choreographer on the video.  I wonder if they made up yet?  I know they had a major falling out years ago), Michael McDonald was awesome (couldn’t believe he was there since he is noticeably absent from the Doobies ALWAYS), Joe Cocker was great, the Bee Gee’s, Hall and Oates, Chicago, all wonderful, and the surprise visit from Bret Michaels was real neat, although I’m not sure he should be doing things against his doctors orders, probably not smart… I have to say though my favorite moment was Alanis.  The notable change in lyric on “You Oughta Know” (from “Would she go down on you in a theater” to “would she go down with you to a theater”) made me chuckle out loud.  I just wish that segment would have lasted longer, although I know (since I know the lyrics to that song) that there wasn’t too much further they could have gone with that song without getting crazy with the changes or the sensor button!

Crystal Bowersox - Original tunes

More and more on the internets, I am finding that Crystal already has several original songs written by none other than herself.  It would be nice if these songs were already for sale, or an album to be had!  Alas, they are not yet available, but hopefully, in the near future, they will be.

This Yakster (and many others in the forum) are big fans of hers.  She is a “modern” throwback if you will, with the soul to sing songs from the likes of Janis Joplin to Melissa Etheridge, Bonnie Raitt to Alanis Morrisette.  I wouldn’t mind hearing her belt out a meaningful Pink ballad as well.  She is current, and quite frankly, too good for the AI amateur stage.  Don’t get me wrong, I am so glad she found her way there, and I really hope she can use this experience and platform to push her up to the stardom she so rightly deserves.  I am truly jealous of those who had the honor of hearing her play on the street.  She fills the gap for the young acoustic hippie that this tree hugger was definitely missing.  She is looking to have her guitar signed by powerful women, and I’m most confident that she should be signing it herself as well.

This coming week, Adam Lambert is the mentor on the show.  Now I know, there are MANY Lambert fans out there, (of which I am not one…sorry) but I gotta say, huh?  How is he even remotely qualified to be a mentor?  He has not even been off the show a full year, isn’t that widely successful (yet) and didn’t even win… So I really don’t get it.  This should be interesting, especially for an artist like Crystal.  What advice could he possibly have for her?  I guess we will see??  Just weird.  I will say I am very happy that Crystal continues to do her own thing.  She already knows who she is, the artist she is, and needs to change nothing.  Kara has from the start given her the wrong advice. Hopefully she continues to listen to herself, and even Simon Cowell has agreed.

Here is another treat, an original by Crystal called “Mama” – A big thanks to the Crystal Bowersox Blog who posts all these gems from her.  Would love to know if we will ever be able to get our hands on these songs.  I would really like to put them on my ipod to take with me on my drives and chill time!  Give it a listen, then come join us in the forum to let us know what you think!

Oh and… let’s throw some votes over to Big Mike this week as well peeps!  This wonderful positive soul should NOT be leaving this show this early!

When Is Enough Enough With American Idol?

kris-allen-adam-lambert.jpg So we just had the showdown between Kris Allen and Adam Lambert on the finale of Season Eight of American Idol and I have to admit, despite media proclamations, this SHOULD  be a close race. But what I REALLY want to talk about here is the burning question of when is enough, enough with American Idol? The judges, the entire season, have been SO obvious in their idolistic adoration of Adam Lambert, it’s hard to imagine why the season was even allowed to continue. If the judges had their way they probably would’ve given the title to Adam weeks ago.

American Idol – Katy Perry… WTH?

Yes, I know I am late on this… but with all the hubbub of moving down to the final 2, Gokey leaving, and my other annoyances with the whole shebang, I completely let something slip from my mind, only to have it pop up again in my little brain today… and all I have to say is… WTF American Idol? American Idol Shocker Tonight?

It has been reported around the web and on radio that we are in for an American Idol “shocker” this evening.  According to many different sources, it has nothing to do with who is staying or going, but something to do with Paula… who knows.  She has supposedly been twittering this morning about a [...]
