Everyone who watched TAR noticed the missing speed bump for dating couple Nick and Vicki, who in the prior leg of the race, showed up in last place at the mat. Fortunately for them however, it was a non-elimination leg, which normally requires a team to complete a “Speed Bump”, a task only the non eliminated team will need to perform in the next leg. However, many fans watching noticed that not only was there no speed bump for the dating couple, but no consequences to being the last team to arrive at all.
According the TAR Production, there is a good reason for the missing task: production problems. Yes, according to Production, the prior leg had some production problems that impacted many of the teams, leading to many time delays. Producers made the decision, in the interest of fairness, not to incur the last team to arrive at the non-elim pit stop with the extra task.
Production also states that the leg being a non-elimination had nothing to do with the Production troubles, that it was indeed chosen in advance.
Rumors however have been swirling online that the Maestro in the “Classical Music” challenge had incorrectly told Nick and Vicki that one of their answers was wrong, making the couple go back and forth more times than they needed to to figure it out. Could that have indeed been the “Production Problem” they are talking about?
Phil’s comments to the couple when they arrived at the mat were noticeably missing the “Speed Bump.” His comments to them were “Nick and Vicki, I’m sorry to tell you, you are the last team to arrive. Very sorry to tell you that you gotta run another leg because you guys are still in the race! This is a non-elimination leg, and you will get to race another day.”
