Late Saturday afternoon during the Television Critics Association conference in Pasadena, CA, Sundance Channel announced their plans for a new non-fiction series. “The Writers Room” will be presented in partnership with Entertainment Weekly and will delve into, as the title suggests, writers rooms of some of today’s most popular and beloved shows. The series will dive behind-the-scenes into some of today’s primetime hits.
At the moment, the series is slated to be a six-episode series, with each episode lasting a half-hour that is set to air in the latter half of 2013. Sundance Channel GM Sarah Barnett exclaimed in a statement released
“Social media has given us a lot of information about what our audience is craving — and we are listening. They want insider knowledge and a deeper perspective — this show will deliver that.”
Per the statement, the show will chronicle “from today’s pioneering cable dramas to the most critically acclaimed and popular network sitcoms” and will be set in a roundtable talk show format. No word yet as to which shows will be featured, but that info is sure to be leaked soon. Likely depending on the popularity of the show, extension past the six-episodes ordered is a possibility.
