And Your New American Idol Is …

After what constituted a record number of votes (over 122 million to be exact), the 2011 American Idol has been crowned. After a night full of (mostly) entertaining performances and not too many surprises (since we dispelled and confirmed some of the night’s rumors for you in our forum), the crown once worn by Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, David Cook and most recently Lee DeWyze has been handed down to the next most promising talent Nigel Lythgoe and company had to offer … Scotty McCreery.

Scotty wasn’t afraid to show his real emotion after being named victor over finalist Lauren Alaina, as he went around and hugged his closest family and friends before humbly thanking and congratulating the other finalists and this years judges, barely giving himself the opportunity to give an encore of his latest single to drop tomorrow. Not long after, Scotty found himself on the floor balling tears of joy, I’m sure, and expressing a sense of relief at what he’s been able to accomplish this season. Scotty’s first single, “I Love You This Big,” will be available tomorrow on iTunes and possibly on your radios very soon. After a season of what many (unless your name is Ryan Seacrest) will claim to be one of the most anticlimactic in Idol history, season 10 is now in the books and your next champ is waiting to be found. What’d you think of tonight’s finale? Any performances get you tapping your feet? Are you pleased with the next American Idol?

Jeff Conaway (Taxi, Grease) Hospitalized in Coma

Jeff Conaway, once the star of Taxi and Kenicki in Grease, is in a coma following what is being reported as a drug overdose from, they think, pain pills. The actor, 60, was reportedly found unconscious on May 11. He is in critical condition, and they are uncertain about his recovery at this time. The name of the hospital has not been disclosed.

Conaway also participated in “Celebrity Rehab” back in 2008, where he discussed his addiction to drugs and alcohol. Things are looking very bleak for the actor.

The Yak wishes him the best, and hopefully, a speedy recovery.

‘Apprentice’ Will Go On Without Donald With Presidential Run

Should The Donald put in a bid for a 2012 Presidential Run, NBC will replace him in the boardroom of The Apprentice. New NBC Pres Bob Greenblatt said on Sunday following the release of the new fall schedule “If he decides to run for president and is unavailable to do the show, we will bring the show back and there will be somebody else sitting at the head of the boardroom table. Who that is, we’re not going to really entertain, because I’m still hoping well have Donald back in the seat.” Greenblatt also went on to say, “The show will go on in his absence,” Greenblatt added. “If we had to address the issue of who it would be replacing him, we’d have to be confident we have another galvanizing presence. I’m hopeful we don’t have to go there, but if we do, it’s too strong a franchise to not consider that.” As we reported earlier, the next installment of the Celebrity Apprentice is set to premiere midseason in early 2012. In the meantime, we’re down to the final four this season where either John Rich, Marlee Matlin, Lil’ Jon, or Meatloaf will claim victory.

Would you still watch if The Donald isn’t in the boardroom? Who can fire celebrities so eloquently? Let us know what you think below and in our FORUMS!

New Rules! New Fresh Look! Same-Squared Circle!

Here is something interesting for all you Wrestling fans here at the Yak, a new and entertaining way to view professional wrestling, as you have never seen before!  The Yak just came across a press release of which I quote here extensively.

Knokx Pro Entertainment, located in Los Angeles California, recently announced the exclusive Territory League.

“The Territory League features teams of wrestlers, which represent their respective cities in exciting matches, that include: Heavyweight, Tag-Team, Cruiserweight and Luchadores.”

“During live matches, each team is held in their “Containment Cells” allowing them to interact with fans and ultimately lead their team to victory!” Like live modern day Gladiators… but without the killing at the end… but pretty darn close.  What is so interesting about this is how these gritty matches are being delivered to the viewer: as “Webisodes” yes your eyes read correctly, as WEBISODES online. Paid membership is required to view the events but by what we’ve seen it is so worth the money.  Will this change the face of professional wrestling?  Only time will tell, but for now it is definitely pile driving it on its head!

“Former WWE Superstars Jr. Fatu (Formerly known as “Rikishi”) Vampire Warrior (Formerly known as “GANGREL,”) NWE Superstar Black Pearl from the European circuit, “Kizarny Sinn Bohdi,” “Too Cool Scotty2hotty,” “Brian Christopher Lawler,” “Gene Snisky,” ‘Son Of The Highway Man Kris Kristofferson’ “Jody Kristofferson,” “16 Year-Old Sensation Parker Greaves” and Professional Body Builder “Scott Anthony” are just a few competing in the Territory League.

See the trailer below, and be sure to check out the Territory League Official Site!

Probst Buys Gene Autry’s Old Digs

Jeff Probst, host of Survivor, is apparently on the move. According to the Los Angeles Times, Probst laid out a cool $5 Mil for his new Studio City home. Was it worth it? Well, sounds like it to me!

[singlepic id=430 w=320 h=240 float=left]The home is a two story Monterey style home sitting on over three and a half acres. The home itself is about 8000 sq. feet (man that’s a lot of house to clean!) and has 5 bedrooms, 7 (yes, SEVEN) bathrooms, a media room for him to check is suave looks on Survivor, a breakfast room and, of course, a wet bar. There is also a swimming pool of course to cool off in during the very hot San Fernando Valley summer months, and a guest house in the back. The home was built back in 1949 (Most of the homes out in the San Fernando Valley were built around this time) and was placed on the market about a year ago starting price 6.9 million. Looks like Jeff knows how to haggle!

[singlepic id=429 w=320 h=240 float=right]Gene Autry, the former owner, was behind many of the songs we sing around the holidays… you know the staples… “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Frosty The Snowman”, “Here Comes Santa Claus” and many others. He died about 13 years ago, in 1998. He not only has 5 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but he has his very own museum dedicated to Western Heritage, and the singing cowboy himself.

What do you think? Would this be your choice if you had the money? Leave us a comment below!

‘Heavily Intoxicated’ Nicolas Cage Arrested In The Big Easy

He might be Leaving Las Vegas, but he isn’t leaving New Orleans with a nice domestic violence charge. Winning! Nicolas Cage, Academy Award winning actor and nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, went on a tear Friday night in New Orleans’ French Quarter. This tear ended with his arrest on several charges, including domestic abuse battery.

This all started at about 11:30 pm local time, when Cage, who is in town filming a movie, began arguing with his wife in the 600 block of Dumaine Street. The building they were arguing in front of was one Cage insisted they’d been renting. His wfie disagreed and he grabbed  her by the arm, trying to drag her to the property he believed was theirs. After that? He started hitting vehicles and tried to get into a taxi. Cops were called, and they tried to get a heavily intoxicated Cage out of the taxi. Mr. Cage expressed his displeasure at this notion quite loudly and in return, he got arrested. He was charged with domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness. Bond was set at $11,000, and his booking date has been set at May 31st.

A “stay away” order  was waived, meaning he does not have to keep away from his wife and no visible signs of injury were present on her arm. Cage was released from jail on Saturday afternoon. Cage, 47, and his third wife, Alice Kim, have a 5-year-old son. His previous two marriages, to Patricia Arquette and Lisa Marie Presley, ended in divorce.

Glenn Beck & FOX News Parting Ways

As we reported previously, there were rumors swirling about the Glenn Beck and Fox News relationship breaking up. It began with sources (NYT said they were Fox News producers) telling the New York Times that they were looking to cancel his show (many didn’t believe it, calling anyone who reported the NYT News as a liberal bias news source, including us!), then news turned into Beck leaving on his own accord about a week or two later, which is what the Beck fans were more than happy to point out to us when that news broke. Whatever the circumstances, the relationship break has become official, with Beck stating that he will be slowly “transitioning” off his show on Fox to pursue other projects on his own.

It seems the relationship between the two had gotten a bit precarious recently anyway. His ratings were still up, but had been steadily falling over the last year. Many advertisers had pulled their sponsorship, stating they did not want to be associated with the gloom and doom of Beck, leaving him with mainly Gold sellers and the like as far as sponsors go. On the other hand, Beck himself felt confined in his role on Fox, wanting to branch out to pursue Documentaries, focus more on his radio show, and maybe even start his own network.

So the break was pretty natural it seems, on both ends, and may just benefit them both.  In a mutual statement put out by Beck and Fox, they added that Beck and Fox may pursue special projects together in the future.

** Disclaimer: We here at the Yak just report it as the news breaks folks. If it’s a News story about a TV show, whether it comes from what you believe to be right or left leaning, it’s still News. We often put in our sources as well. We leave it up to the reader to make up their own mind about the breaking stories and news, and will continue to do so, rather than tell people what to think. Sure, we let our writers put in some of their own opinions and commentary, but regardless, the news story is what leads. We apologize if the News itself is not what you would like to hear, or is somehow in conflict with your opinion. We welcome opinions from all over the spectrum, either below in the comments, or in the Forum where we discuss all the shows regularly.

Are you a Glenn Beck fan? Sad to see him go from Fox? Do you think the break was mutual? Is Beck really leaving on his own accord, or was he pushed out by FOX behind the scenes? We are talking about it in the FORUM!
