Yak Roundup: Did Adele Really Give It to Chris Brown? And More TV News…

adele-chris-brown-1360693397All over the interwebs, sites mislead and misguide readers all over based on one simple picture. What many may have you to believe is that Adele wasn’t having Chris Brown not giving Frank Ocean a standing O after losing to him. And her solution? Yell at him, likely based on anger from the Rihanna fiasco. But what many aren’t sharing is the following photo (seen below) where Adele and Chris Brown are happily posing for a photo op. There really is no proof whether Adele and Brown shared some beef or if they had just a casual Grammy encounter.

In more music news, the country music Hall of Fame has plans to bring a Blown Away Tour exhibit to Music City, celebrating Grammy winner Carrie Underwood’s latest successful tour. The exhibit opens early June and will be open until mid-November and will feature clothing, set pieces, mics and other special memorabilia from Underwood’s latest tour.

adele-chris-brown-2-1360693428In TV news, Showtime has released a trailer teasing The Big C: Hereafter, which returns in April. The show’s final mini-season promises to be an emotional roller coaster. Also from Showtime, a full length trailer of Ray Donovan, which premieres after Dexter on June 30, has been released. And finally on the premium TV front, Veep will premiere its second season on April 14 at 10/9c.

Billboards Announces Top Selling Albums and Songs of 2012

21-AdeleDepending on where your heart aligns with music, 2012 was either an excellent year or a terrible year musically for you. That’s the beauty of music. Billboard, early Thursday, announced the top selling albums and songs of 2012, based on their records and compilation of sales. Longevity is all that matters in the eyes of Adele fans, as “21,” although released in 2011, was the top selling album of 2012 with 4.41 million records sold. She took home the honor in 2011, as well. Rounding out the Top 10 was Jason Aldean’s, “Night Train.”

Sales were compiled from Jan 2, 2012 and ended on December 30, 2012. Billboard notes that “21” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart way back on the list March, 21, 2011. It has yet to leave the tally and has never been absent from the weekly top 40. Trailing behind Adele, in the No. 2 spot, was “Red” by Taylor Swift (3.11 million sold), which is pretty significant seeing that the album was released in October 2012. It’s the fourth time Swift has had an album ranked among a year’s top three sellers. Also making the list were One Direction, Justin Bieber, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and Mumford and Sons. One Direction marks the first time, since SoundScan began keeping track in 1991, that an act has two albums that debuted in the same year taking two of the top five spots. Swift and Garth Brooks have come close to such an honor. 2012 also marks the first year that more than four country albums hold a place in the top ten, as 5 of the Top 10 albums of 2012 are country albums.

In 2012, overall album and physical CD sales decreased a little bit, while digital downloads expectantly increased. The top selling digital album of 2012? “21” by Adele, as well. Also of note, Billboard notes that for the fifth consecutive year, more vinyl albums were sold than in any other year since SoundScan launched in 1991. Finally, 2012 was a record year for digital downloads where a record 1.336 billion tracks were sold digitally, an increase of 5% from 2011. Report: Adele Welcomes Healthy Baby Boy

Adele Adkins

Adele has managed to do what so many big stars of her caliber can’t … stay out of the spotlight during a pregnancy. For the most part, Adele has managed to keep her private life private and that is respectable. After announcing her pregnancy via a post on her official website in June, the Grammy winner has been busy preparing for her first child. According to a report by UK’s The Sunday People, Adele gave birth to a healthy baby boy last week.

Four months after the big announcement, Adele and partner Simon Konecki are finally parents. The report states that a source close to the couple claims that “Adele and Simon are ecstatic at their new arrival.” Adele most recently released her theme for the new Bond “Skyfall,” which was well received by fans of her music and the movie alike. The singer’s rep would not confirm the news to the Toronto Star, stating that they would not release a statement at this time and that they had “no comment.”

Whether Adele has given birth or not, we at the Yak are happy for her and wish her and her new family the best in health and happiness.

TomKat No More |

After 5 years, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will be divorcing. Many might have thought this was an inevitable moment in Hollywood history, while many are floored by the news. “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.” After an Italian wedding in 2006, Tom and Katie have been at the forefront of many celebrity bloggers and Hollywood gossip. They have a 6 year old daughter, Suri, together. This was the first marriage for 33 year old Holmes and the third for Cruise, who turns 50 on Tuesday. He was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, Isabella, 19, and Connor, 17.

Stealthy TODAY Replacement |

As has been the buzz, Ann Curry is OUT of NBC’s The Today Show. And as has been the speculation, her replacement? Savannah Guthrie. With no mention of a new cohost combo, viewers of the Today Show noticed the stealthy cohost replacement early Friday morning. The program opened with Guthrie and Lauer behind the news desk with no mention of missing cohosts (Curry). Looks like NBC is keeping things classy with this change over. On Friday afternoon, NBC ended the speculation with this comment in a press release.

“As soon as Savannah joined NBC News she was a standout, reporting for every franchise in the news division and rising through the ranks. She has a one-of-a-kind combination of sharp wit and approachability, and our viewers value her journalistic skills and legal background just as much as her humor and charm. She can effortlessly go from interviewing the Secretary of State to jumping Olympic-sized hurdles on the Plaza. I’m thrilled to welcome Savannah as our newest co-anchor, and along with Matt, Al and Natalie, we’ve got the best morning team in the business.”

Fashion Star Host OUT |

Elle Macpherson, host of NBC’s reality show Fashion Star, has stepped down from her duties for the show’s upcoming second season. With this news, the show will also be parting ways with one of it’s retail partners, H&M. In an interview with the New York Post, Macpherson notes “I have been involved with Fashion Star from the beginning and am very proud to see it come to life, not only in America but globally. The show is in great hands, and although I will not be hosting this season, I will still be very involved [as an executive producer and] will be reviewing the format for the upcoming season.” The show, expected to debut in early 2013, is not expected to part ways with judges Jessica Simpson, John Varvatos and Nicole Richie.

Christina Applegate Back as SYTYCD Guest Judge |

As announced via twitter on Friday afternoon by executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, Fox’s best reality competition series, So You Think You Can Dance, will be bringing back Christina Applegate as a guest judge some time this season. No word on her episode’s air date. SYTYCD just revealed this season’s Top 20 (and what a great bunch they are!) with Zooey Deschanel joining Lythgoe and Hot Tamale Mary Murphy. The series will be taking a break for the 4th, but will be back with the first LIVE show on July 11 at 8/7c!

It’s All Smiles at THE VOICE |

When The Voice closed season 2, things were not all bubbly behind the scenes. Tensions were reportedly in the air between mentors Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera. Levine recently told MTV that things are now much better between the pop rocker and the songstress. “We bickered a little bit in the beginning, to be totally truthful, we had a little bit of a rough start, just kind of all getting to know each other,” Levine mentioned of his bond with Aguilera. Things seemed to really heat up with Levine’s finalist (and ex-Mouseketeer) Tony Lucca singing “99 Problems,” which Aguilera found “derogatory.” Levine has cleared the air saying that he loves her, “she’s the best, and we’re having a fantastic time as of late on the set.” The Voice is currently filming the blind auditions for season 3, set to premiere Sept 10 on NBC!

Melodic Monday: Spotlight on Adele

Most, at this point in time, has at least heard of Adele, at least we hope everyone has. Well, Adele is releasing a new album next week, so we thought we would turn the Melodic Monday spotlight on this truly amazing, and just getting better with maturity, talent. Maturity of course being a whopping 22 years old! Her latest release, ’21’, will be available Feb 22 for purchase.

In the meantime, sit back and enjoy this broken down acoustic performance of Adele, thanks to NPR, and be sure to let us know what you think! We think this wonderful performance is the perfect anecdote to a great week, especially after the quite peculiar Grammy’s we were all subjected to yesterday.
