“SYTYCD” Gets Premiere Date For Season 10, Plus Fox Season Finale Dates, Summer Premieres

cp_yak_sytycdWhile the CW has been the only broadcast network to mark out it’s season finale plans, Fox today announced the premiere of one of it’s summer staples (and largely underrated show, if you ask me) – So You Think You Can Dance – as well as season ender dates. SYTYCD is currently travelling around the country looking for America’s Favorite Dancer for the upcoming tenth season. There are two more audition dates remaining – Memphis (with guest judge Wayne Brady) on March 14 and Los Angeles (with guest Jesse Tyler Ferguson) on March 22. Minnie Driver, “tWitch,” and Adam Shankman have attended auditions earlier this year.

Season 10 is set to premiere Tuesday May 14 at 8/7c on Fox. While it remains unclear if the show will move to its usual slot on Wednesday after American Idol completes its season, we do know that Fox has decided to keep SYTYCD to a once-a-week format, mimicking the changes from last season where performances and results all will be jam packed into two hours. The show is premiering a tad bit earlier this season than in the past, so we’ll see how that plays out this summer!

Also premiering this summer for Fox – Hell’s Kitchen on May 6 at 9/8c, with Fox’s new reality series Does Someone Have To Go? getting a sneak peek following Idol on May 15. The Goodwin Games premieres May 20 at 8:30/7:30c, MasterChef on May 22 at 8/7c, and Animation Domination High-Def on July 27 at 11/10c. Hell’s Kitchen moves to Thursdays at 9/8c on May 23 after Does Someone Have To Go? officially kicks off at 8/7c that night.

Per Fox, on Does Someone Have To Go the boardroom doors get blown wide open when employees are given the power to make some tough decisions. Frustrated bosses will hand over the reins of their companies to the employees, offering their respective staffs a chance to make changes in the workplace – even if it means letting co-workers go. Each participating office will have its own set of issues, which will force them to take a hard look at what’s plaguing their workplace and answer the toughest question of all: DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO GO? is Fox’s latest venture into reality where companies can lay off or fire colleagues on TV.

#HomoProblems

I just thought I’d say this:

Females get to pick from 90% of the male population for a mate…I get 10%.  And that’s not even including the closeted ones.  So we might toss another 5% on, just because I don’t just metrosexuals anymore than I do Sarah McLachlan before ruining my day with those ASPCA commercials.

And now:  Hibernation.

So the Sphinx Speaks.

The Amazing Race: The Yak Chats with Idries and Jamil

Idries Abdur-Rahman & Jamil Abdur-Rahman
Idries Abdur-Rahman and Jamil Abdur-Rahman

Season 22 of The Amazing Race kicked off last week with an Amazing Race first, travel to Bora Bora, and saw the demise of one of three teams that opted to take the penalty on a Road Block over completing the task. The Firefighters, Matt & Daniel, were the last in a foot race to the Pit Stop at the end of the first leg. The second leg continued in the beautiful locale of Bora Bora, where the remaining 11 teams battled it out in the topical heat and crystal blue waters. Their fear of water ultimately landed twin brothers, Jamil Abdur-Rahman and Idries Abdur-Rahman, at the back of the pack and eliminated at the Pit Stop. The Yak took time to sit down with the OB/GYN Physicians to discuss their stint on the race.

~~~~~~~
The Yak: When you applied to be on The Amazing Race, did you think your fear of water might have been a challenge somewhere along the race? Did you have any discussions on how to deal with it when it did come up?
Idries: I think we both knew. There were two things coming into the race that we were hoping to minimize: Water and Pork, because we can’t eat pork. We knew that the water was definitely going to come into play. Both of us can swim, but we’re just not super comfortable in the water and we’re not super comfortable with open water. So, our hope was that if we did have to be in water, it would be more like a contained setting, like a pool. We did prepare, though. We did swimming classes and training in the pool. (laughs) We did know that it was going to be an Achilles Heel if it came up. Definitely.
The Yak: You definitely gained some respect from some of our members for not giving up on the task, unlike some of the teams in the previous leg. What made you decide to stick with the Detour rather than take the penalty for not completing it?
Jamil: I think it was a couple of things. For one, just being on the race. It was something that we had wanted to do for so long, and you can’t get on the race and then just give up. You just can’t do that. It was more about having respect for the entire process. You know, it was tough getting on the race and then once you get there, you can’t give up because it gets tough. The second reason was because we knew our friends would see it, our family would see it, along with our children, and our patients, so we didn’t want to be portrayed like that. Then, third, like we said on the race and not to be corny, but it really was true – we had a lot of people early on in our lives who didn’t give up on us. Just out of respect to them, we couldn’t really give up. Even when you know you’re dead, and we knew we were dead, but we couldn’t give up. (laughs) You gotta go full force.
Idries: I agree with that. Also, my wife and I home-school my kids, and we tell them you can’t give up, you gotta keep going. So we couldn’t just go on national TV and give up. That wasn’t going to happen.
Jamil Powers Through the Road Block
Jamil Powers Through the Road Block
The Yak: What is the best memory that you’ll take away from the entire experience?
Idries: The entire experiences itself is just awesome and amazing. I’m going to look at this whole thing and just treasure the memory. It’s so hard to pinpoint one thing that was better than the other. The whole experience was amazing. I know it sounds corny, but it was just amazing! The whole thing was cool.
Jamil: The one experience I’ll take from it more than anything else was the last task we were doing. When people were watching the show last night, they were asking, “Why were you crying? Were you crying because you were done?” Even though we knew we were done, I told them it wasn’t that. When I was on the last task, I pretty much knew we were finished. I was exhausted. My feet had been in the water for so long that once I got on those stilts, I started getting blisters. It was a bad experience, and I just wanted to be done, so I sat down for a minute and closed my eyes. I started talking to my Grandparents, and I said, “Please help me.” Right at that moment, it was the strangest thing – there was this cloud cover, so it wasn’t so hot anymore and there was this breeze, so I knew I was going to do it. So, I got on the stilts and I did it. That was actually what made me kind of emotional because I kind of felt like that was them saying to me, “We’re still here. We’re still pushing you.” That was the best experience I take from it.
The Yak: Did you do anything special to prepare for the race after you had learned you’d been cast this season?
Idries: We were both already pretty fit from going to the gym every day and running. I actually had run a 15K just 4 days before we left for the race. So, we stayed physically fit. We stepped it up a bit. We were putting weighted backpacks on our backs to simulate running the race with our actual backpacks. I had started training for my black belt before we left, so I kept doing that, and we started playing mental games as well. We’re use to working and having to be sharp with no sleep, but we started trying to step it up a bit. I would wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I would play Sudoku, just to see how mentally sharp I could be with very little sleep.
Jamil: I think the swimming lessons and that training made us more proficient, as well.
The Yak: Did you get a chance to get close with any of the other teams, and have you kept in touch with them since the race ended?
Jamil: Yeah, we all keep in touch. We have a little group on Facebook, and we all chit chat with each other. We’re planning on doing a little reunion at the end. I think we actually got close with all the teams.
Idries: Everybody was awesome. I told everyone – not trying to be diplomatic – but everyone was really awesome. I felt pretty close to all of them to be honest with you.
Idries and Jamil At the Road Block
Idries and Jamil At the Road Block
The Yak: What’s next for the two of you?
Jamil: We’re just continuing to do what we were doing before. We’re working, and we’re enjoying that. The only other thing I want to take from this whole experience is it showed me how lucky we are, not only to do what we do on a daily basis, but to have opportunities like that. I do want to give back in some way, and we’re thinking of getting involved in some charitable activities. Other than that, we’re just living our lives and taking it one day at a time.
The Yak: Thanks for your time. We wish you both the best of luck!
Idries: Thank you!
Jamil: Thank you very much!
NBC’s “Hollywood Game Night” Names Host: Jane Lynch
nbc logoEmmy winning actress Jane Lynch has been tapped to join NBC’s latest venture, “Hollywood Game Night.” The “Glee” star will act as hostess for the eight-episode series. The reality series comes from “Grimm” producer Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Unlike other celebrity type shows, NBC claims that this show will feature A-list celebrities getting together with non-celebrities and playing games with them in what the network claims to be a “cocktail party atmosphere.”
There is no set air date for the show, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see it air as early as the summer of 2013. Or maybe it will act as NBC’s holiday time special game show. Paul Telegdy, NBC’s boss for Alternative Programming had praises to sing about Lynch in a statement released Friday afternoon.
“With Jane Lynch on board as our host, we now have a key component in place that will further enliven the sheer fun of a raucous Hollywood party that will include real everyday people. Her exuberant wit and ability to think quickly will be the perfect match for our show which will give viewers a fresh look inside the off-set lives of their favorite celebrities — and allow them a chance to win money as well.”
HCG Rogue Diet Update
DietIf you have not read my previous post, here is a quick update. I am currently on Round 2 of the HCG Diet and am “rogue” if you will, ie, not following protocol to a “T”. I lost a total of about 30 pounds on the last go around (I think it may have been a little less) and did a full 42 say round. This time I am planning a 30 day round because those last 10 days or so last time KILLED me for some reason. Hence the rogue part. In addition, I feel I need to put in the disclaimer once again… If you are new to this diet, DO NOT GO ROGUE. You have GOT to do this by the book the first time so you will have a clue what can and cannot affect your weight loss if you decide to “Go Rogue” the second go around. Now, on with the update.
I am about to be a cry baby. Yeah, you heard me. WAAAAHHH! I WANT FOOD! I WANT POPCORN! The last couple of days have been rough on the will power. I don’t know whether being a little on the depressed and wanting comfort side is playing into it, meaning… I want my pjs, a blankie, good TV and GOOD FOOD. Yeah well, can’t give in that easy. This too shall pass.
I have been sticking with my rogue plan. One day I ate a few sunflower seeds to get by. I know now not to do that. They affected the scale big time. I have added broccoli which has been fine for me and I added steak which has also done well with me (thank goodness). I was so incredibly tired of chicken and fish. I am still eating the low carb yogurt as my lunch and it’s been working. I am currently on Day 9 of the low calorie plan and am down 10 from my starting weight. More from the after loading weight but I don’t count that. So all is working great, but Oh Em Gee I want buttery popcorn! This is hard! I feel like I’m on some show called “How bad do you want it” and there are times here and there that make me just want to say… not that bad! But… I go on.
Who needs a Man? When you have 43 Valentines!
So Valentines’ Day was Thursday! As most people know I am single. That is said to be a curse on the day that people deem for love. However, even with my internet dating I was still alone on that day. That quickly changed as soon as I got to work. My students showered! me with gifts! Chocolates! candy! flowers! and sweet valentines that read “Viles (Violets) are Blue, Roses are Red and sugar is seet (Sweet) and so are you”. I have  never felt  that much love as I did that day! My babies  made a day that could have potentially been a disaster a day that was wonderful and awesome!
Yak Roundup: Did Adele Really Give It to Chris Brown? And More TV News…
adele-chris-brown-1360693397All over the interwebs, sites mislead and misguide readers all over based on one simple picture. What many may have you to believe is that Adele wasn’t having Chris Brown not giving Frank Ocean a standing O after losing to him. And her solution? Yell at him, likely based on anger from the Rihanna fiasco. But what many aren’t sharing is the following photo (seen below) where Adele and Chris Brown are happily posing for a photo op. There really is no proof whether Adele and Brown shared some beef or if they had just a casual Grammy encounter.
In more music news, the country music Hall of Fame has plans to bring a Blown Away Tour exhibit to Music City, celebrating Grammy winner Carrie Underwood’s latest successful tour. The exhibit opens early June and will be open until mid-November and will feature clothing, set pieces, mics and other special memorabilia from Underwood’s latest tour.
adele-chris-brown-2-1360693428In TV news, Showtime has released a trailer teasing The Big C: Hereafter, which returns in April. The show’s final mini-season promises to be an emotional roller coaster. Also from Showtime, a full length trailer of Ray Donovan, which premieres after Dexter on June 30, has been released.
